Don was willing to tackle our historic renovation. Previous owners from the early 1980's had turned a mother n law quarters into a hot tub room with a wall of windows. After demoing the wall of windows we found they had removed the bond beam and left us a bit of a mess. Don rebuilt the structural integrity of the wall and installed the historic replicated windows and door frame in their exact locations according to original blue prints, despite the fact it would have been easier to fudge on their locations. He was quick, efficient, smart, and came in a bit under budget. Part of this was because he worked alone and let us help with any parts that required 2 or more sets of hands.

I enjoyed working with Don on an expansion of an animal shelter in Espanola, New Mexico. Although it had challenging budget and schedule issues, Don did a superb job in keeping everything on time and within budget. I look forward to working with Old Town Builders in the future.

Old Town Builders installed a shower in my home, including electrical work and plumbing. Don Russell, the owner of Old Town Builders, is great to work with. He has extensive experience and is able to draw on that experience to make important suggestions. He also has an excellent sense of design. The work was beautifully done and I would be happy to have work done by old Town Builders any time.

My Mother and I hired Old Town Builders to remodel a house we purchased prior to moving in. The kitchen required some reconfiguring, some additional cabinets, new countertops, some floor patches, a skylight, wiring and plumbing for a gas stove. Grab bars and closet lights were installed in other rooms. Outside, a leaking portal was partially reroofed and partially remodeled into an arbor. A broken- down shed was removed together with a huge dog run and dog house, fencing, yards of concrete and a 20 ft concrete bench. Working with Don was great. He was a professional who performed great work, cleaned up, and billed in a timely manner. A strong plus is that he can work creatively with a homeowner to produce a great final product. We recommend him highly.

Don installed a very difficult door including some unique trim and metal work. He was amazingly easy to work with, very responsive and straightforward. He's a man of integrity!

Don replaced all of the doors in our home. He spent a lot of time with us giving multiple estimates over the course of a year, and was very responsive to my calls. When we finally decided to do the project, he was very professional and his subcontractors did very good work. Don frequently checked on the progress and did some of the work himself. He and his workers were always courteous and cleaned up every day, which was important since we were living in the house with our children while the work was being done.

I have worked with Old Town Builders multiple times over the past several years. Whether the project was small or large, decorative or structural, the quality was consistently high and the customer service excellent. The owner is consistent and trustworthy, with an eye for detail and dedication to his work that is rare in this local industry. Old Town Builders is a jewel among Santa Fe remodelers and construction companies.

Old Town Builders designed and built two 10' by 10' sheds for us, replaced a double-wide French door, and performed many smaller projects. The sheds are better built, better looking and less expensive than commercially available units from, say, Home Depot. They resemble small houses, and our neighbors have complemented us on their appearance. The French doors look great. They are a non-standard size. I cannot see any marks in the exterior stucco or the interior wood panels to indicate where the doors were patched in to the existing wall. Town Builders know the products and the best prices available at the local hardware stores. For example, they found the French door on sale at Home Depot that saved us $1,000. They are easy to work with, have great ideas, and are very resourceful. We plan to use them for more remodeling work.

We have worked with Old Town Builders for several years, on large and small projects. Don Russell is not only highly skilled, trustworthy, reliable and competent but will go the extra mile to make sure every project is completed with excellence and to the clients specifications. He also is a very positive person and is truly a pleasure to work with. My husband and I give him the highest recommendation!

Old Town Builders completed a major remodeling project for us on two older housing units. All work was completed within budget, ahead of schedule and in a highly professional and competent manner. Old Town Builders also provided design and construction advice on an additional project requiring expertise in historical restoration techniques.

We hired Don Russell (dba Old Town Builders) to replace two decks at our Santa Fe home. It was a project with some challenges: (1) both are on the second floor, built on flat roofs so that water leaks were a concern; and (2) the material we selected was Ipe, a tough Brazilian treated wood that some contractors do not care to work with. Don used a remarkable Bison installation method to suspend the decking over the roof (avoiding leak issues), and did a lovely job. We were especially pleased with the way he handled our stairways. They were not attached to our home properly. Don identified and fixed that problem - even repairing the stucco. We couldn't be more pleased. Don is also a gentleman. He was always neat and courteous. Highest marks!!
