My husband was searching for carpet companies and found S&J Biren to have great reviews. I called and scheduled an appointment to come in. From the very beginning I loved working with JILL. She was super informative and had a great amount of expertise. She took careful notes as we talked, and listened with care so she could make recommendations based on what we wanted. I took home carpet samples to see what would work best, and she ordered samples of colors that they didn't have in their showroom for me. The installer came out to measure the rooms and you could tell he was also very good at what he does - he was quick and efficient. S&J also helped with an existing rug of mine - and when I dropped that rug off, I met Eric Biren (so great to see that this is a multi-generational business!) When our carpet and our custom rugs came in, we scheduled the installation and were glad to see there was a large crew. They were efficient and very tidy. When we saw the finished installation we were thrilled. My husband read through many sites and reviews, and everyone says having a good installer is super important. We're so glad we went with S&J Biren and their installer - total five stars plus plus! In the renovation world - when something goes perfectly and it turns out perfectly, it's worth recommending to other homeowners!!

Since I make my home in Ohio and the unit is in Los Angeles, Jill went above and beyond the call of duty to meet with my tenant to finalize product selection and to work with the property management company to ensure her installation team complied with the complex's rules for workers. I highly recommend this company for all flooring needs. I especially recommend Jill Hankoff. I got carpeting from her. She was the only totally professional sales person I met in my search for carpeting in Los Angeles. To begin with, even before I went to her store (by appointment only due to Covid), she asked for photos of the rooms to be carpeted. She offered great design suggestions beyond just carpeting. The store's inventory is top notch and much more extensive than any other store I had visited. Jill took a lot of time with me, pulling out sample after sample. Once I found what I felt might work, she ordered larger sized samples. I went back several times until I found the right carpeting and Jill was totally fine with that. Here is what she did not do: She did not pressure me in any way. She did not "offer" to take measurements of my rooms, which is a salesman's trick: if they can come to your house to do measurements, then you will feel more "obliged" to use them, even if they don't have the right flooring. When it came time to order the samples, she had them shipped directly to my house, unlike the other stores which required I come back to them to pick them up. A large portion of this store's clientele are designers who are used to being treated professionally. This store is not, however, a wholesale only store. I am not a designer and was so thrilled to have received such professional service. Finally, I am extremely happy with the carpet. It is exactly what I wanted and looks fabulous.

Jill offers superb individualized attention in assisting in the selection of floor products through to the installation process. She helped me for months with excellent and prompt on-line responses and suggestions, sending samples, and giving advice. Tomas, the installer, did an outstanding job of installing my kitchen floor recently to a very high standard. I could not have hoped for more. So, do not hesitate to give them a call. Jill Hankoff at S&J Biren was wonderful. She helped me with selecting the color and style for two custom-cut area rugs, and offered suggestions re adding edging, trim, a border, and other alternatives. I'm very pleased with the two area rugs I bought. The process was smooth and pleasant. My only complaint is that the stores hours are not convenient for someone who works full-time, and not in the same area of town as S&J Biren.

This is more than simply the finest carpet and flooring store in Los Angeles. It is the model for every type of business that we all wish we could find - and rarely do these days. Biren has a commitment to customers, first and foremost. They really want to help you find what you want and need - not just what they would prefer to sell you. They have such extensive experience, that they see the best and most economical way to serve you. This is in addition to a very wide range of products to choose from, and extensive knowledge of the materials and how they fit your needs. We spent a lot of time with other carpet stores in our area. They all measured the needed carpet in a direction that would leave us with a very large remnant, and a waste of money. Biren looked at the same diagram, turned it around, and showed how the material could be cut with almost no remnant (to pay for and put in storage), and saved us the cost of many square feet of carpet. We later referred our neighbors to Biren, and they also came back raving at the professionalism, and thoughtful response to their needs. I can't think of a better, more satisfying, and effective company to do business with. I would recommend S&J Biren overwhelmingly to any prospective customer.

We spent a great deal of time perusing the samples for a stairwell carpet project with Jill Hankoff and she was most helpful. A number of samples were sent to the house so we could "picture" them within our color scheme. After making our selection, we followed up and made an appointment with the installer. He was FABULOUS...so fastidious and careful in measuring, cutting and installing the carpet. The task was not an easy one but he was very patient and meticulous. S & J Biren's professional staff provided us with high quality service and excellent advice. Jill and Barry (our installer) also came to our aid when issues came up with our remodel. The inspector questioned the waterproofing that was done, and was on the verge of requiring us to pull up the entire floor. They both provided written and verbal support on our behalf, which resulted in our passing inspection without the need to do further work. We made the choice to use a flooring company with excellent service and quality products, even though we might have saved a few dollars by going to a big box home improvement store and hiring a handyman. In return, we got a beautiful floor that was installed perfectly -- and the professional support that ended up saving us what could have been $2-3,000 in additional work.

This is an excellent floor covering establishment. They have a HUGE selection to choose from, at all price ranges. Jill was especially helpful in guiding me through the varieties of carpets and pads, with their respective pros and cons. I may add that the installers were very easy to work with, courteous, and very helpful in restoring the room to its original state. Our home was ready for new carpets and I was interested in natural fiber or a berber style carpet. I read great reviews on S&J Biren Carpets online so I stopped by their showroom. The team was terrific from start to finish. I worked with Evan Biren who was very gracious with his time and expertise. Evan's family has owned and operated Biren carpets for more than 70 years; their extensive knowledge of products, technical considerations and installation was apparent at every step of the process from selecting carpets to installation day. We carpeted two bedrooms and an office, which each had tricky transitions at the doorways. Evan and his team were diligent on planning and addressing the transitions; taking photos of exposed flooring ahead of installation so they could plan for necessary materials and, on the day of installation, trouble shooting several unexpected issues with underlayment. They took the time to expose these issues and help us resolve them at no additional cost, it's just part of their standard practice...of excellence. Pricing was transparent, installation was a dream, and Evan counseled me on the best carpet to suit my needs never pressuring me toward a particular product or price point. While I ended up with a high grade nylon carpet (best carpet choice for our house with active doggie and sun exposure, thank you Evan) working with Biren Floor Covering I knew I could trust I was getting highest quality product and a terrific value on price. I am an interior designer and will definitely be referring clients to Biren for all floor covering needs. Simply THE BEST carpet showroom in Los Angeles!

Fantastic Company! I was looking for a very special wool carpeting without chemicals and they were very helpful in finding some beautiful carpet for us.. We carpeted over 190 sq yds and the house looks amazing. The quality is also exceptional. The installation went as planned and we are extremely happy with the end result. S & J Biren installed the carpeting at my home in Santa Barbara back in 1991. The owner (Eric) was such a pleasure to work with, and his company did such an outstanding job...that 26 years later (!) I went back to them when I needed a runner for the stairs of my newly remodeled home - I didn't even bother shopping anywhere else. Eric is still the owner, but this time I dealt with Jill...and she made the whole process easy and fun. She spent an hour laying out on the floor different samples that she thought might work for my project. With her knowledgeable and enthusiastic help, I was able to choose six possible designs - and samples of all six arrived in the mail within a week. Once the carpet I'd chosen arrived at their warehouse, two of her installers drove the 100 miles from LA up to Santa Barbara and spent the day cutting and installing the runner up four different flights of stairs...by the end of the day, the job was done and it is both flawless and fabulous. A few days ago, we had an old, 1950’s linoleum floor taken out of our guest bathroom, and replaced with a brand new one put in by Angel and his helper from S & J Biren. They worked meticulously, and the finished product was PERFECT (attested to by my perfectionistic husband). We were thrilled, and don’t know why we didn’t have the flooring replaced MUCH sooner. What a wonderful experience with Jill and S&J! We needed carpets for our office redone quickly and she came through brilliantly. We picked up samples to match the color we wanted, ordered them the next day, and within a little over a week they were installed. Jill communicated with us throughout the process, giving updates as we went along. They were able to remove our old carpets, take out the furniture in the room, install, and replace the furniture. we just redid the carpeting in our master bedroom and adjacent "indoor balcony like space". we did our daughters bedroom, guest bedroom and my home office several years ago with S & J Biren and Jill Kimmel-Hankoff of that company both then and now -- I wish i could give them 6 stars -- Jill is incredible -- she spent so much time with us and satisfying what seemed like our insatiable appetite to order and review samples to make sure we were happy with our selection for the master bedroom (we are thrilled with it). Our Interior Design firm, HVJ Design has worked with Evan from S & J Biren for decades. We do both Commercial and Residential projects, and they are able to handle the unique complexities of both these types of work. Evan cares that each project uses the best possible product for its unique needs, and he sweats the details as much as I do, knowing that is what separates satisfactory from stunning. We have very long term relationships and do multiple projects with most of our clients. Evan keeps meticulous records so that years later he knows the product and sq footage that any given project required, making replacing or updating areas seamless. Talking of seams, he always provides me with a seaming diagram so together we can ensure that they are minimized and fall in the least visible places. The most beautiful product will only look good if the installation is superior, and we can always count on that with S & J's crew. On the rare occasion that an issue arises, it is always dealt with promptly, professionally and to everyone's satisfaction. The scope of our projects would allow us to work work with any vendor, but our first choice for carpet and rugs is always S& J Biren.

S & J Biren and, in particular, Peggy, are a pleasure to work with. We needed to replace an old carpet but had a deadline plus wanted the new carpet to be as close in color and quality as possible to the old one. Peggy supplied us with several excellent samples which matched not only the color but the quality as well, and so we had an easy time choosing. A Paradigm floor was installed beautifully in my brand new studio. The contractor accidentally left an exterior drain pipe covered up which resulted in a massive amount of water collecting on the roof and ultimately seeping over the flashings and into the room below. To my utter delight, the pool of water on the Paradigm floor caused NO damage at all. This flooring is advertised as water proof - and it is! We went to Jill of S & J Biren Floor Covering for two reasons. First, we needed to replace our old closet carpeting - we wanted a rich color rather than the grey color we had and which showed dirt so easily. Second, carpet in our den that we had purchased with her help and advice about 5 years ago was no longer getting clean and we thought we needed to replace it. Jill helped us find new closet carpeting in a lovely brown that looks great! Moreover, rather than sell us new den carpeting, she gave us the name of cleaning service that came and made our old carpet look brand new! We are thrilled. I've been dealing with S&J Biren for many years -- and like a fine wine, it just keeps getting better each time I return. My salesperson was Jill. She was so helpful and patient. It can get overwhelming because they have so many types and styles of carpet to chose from, but Jill helped me navigate through the samples to find the perfect one. We are delighted with our new stair-runner. It looks fantastic!

We worked with Jill at S&J Biren to buy 2 custom-made rugs, one area rug and one hallway runner. By asking the right questions, Jill was able to narrow down exactly what we wanted since we weren't sure at first. She was extremely patient, and because of her vast knowledge of the store's products, we found the perfect carpets....and all within our budget guidelines. She then worked with us to help us make decisions about the finishing of the edges of the carpets. We received quite an education, and the carpets are beautiful. We also received the carpets when promised -- everything was done in a very timely manner. We look forward to working with Jill again.

My husband and I had been searching for the perfect carpet for almost one year... We thought we knew what we wanted in terms of the style of carpet, and went to many different places for carpet. I had given up in despair, thinking it impossible to find what we wanted. We had meet one of Jill's associate who was helpful, but not Jill. What can I say, she seem to understand my frustration about the whole process. About two months ago, I went to see Jill reviewing some of the samples that we had considered before but just were not quite right. Jill, said to me as I was about to leave the store, "let me show you this carpet that I think might be just what you are looking for". We just used S & J Biren Floor Covering for carpeting for our bedrooms and closets. We worked with Jill Hankoff (she is the BEST) and she is extremely knowledgeable and professional. She knew about every type of carpet, their durability, value and helped us with which rooms we might want to splurge on. We went in not sure of what we wanted and working with Jill helped us make the best choices. We chose a 100% pure wool super soft carpet for our master suite & office. With Jill’s help, we decided on a Mohawk SmartStrand Silk, which is basically indestructible, for our kids’ rooms. Even the pad is amazing and will hold up for years to come. Jill always answered our emails and got back to us immediately. Jill even followed up with us about our installation and made sure we were happy with the end result. The installers that S & J Biren uses were amazing. They were extremely careful, didn’t mark any of our walls and moved all the furniture (which was heavy) with no problem. I had the best experience ordering new carpet for our master bedroom, dressing room and 2 closets. Jill was the Biren Sales Associate who assisted me and enabled me to find exactly what was needed for our home. I wanted to duplicate the same color as the jade carpet which was installed about 10 years ago. Jill professionally and competently showed me various options, gave me samples to take home and advised as to the type of nylon carpet that could be dyed and work for our home. A woman carefully measured the areas for the new carpet . The carpet was ready on the date promised. The two men installers were efficient, very careful and helpful. It took 7 hours for them to remove the old carpet and pad and install the new carpet and pad. Everyone did a great job. The carpet is beautiful and exactly what we wanted. Biren is a"Perfect 10" in my company rating book and so is Jill.

S&J Biren has handled five installations for me; one commercial and four residential. The most recent is a cork kitchen floor. They offer a wide selection of products for all applications and all prices ranges. The personal attention and professional attitude of all Biren employees make flooring installations the best, least stressful phase of remodels. The installers arrive on time and fully prepared to accomplish the job. They do the job and leave my home clean. A few years ago, I made the mistake of engaging a large box store instead of Biren to install carpeting to save a few pennies. What a disaster! The carpet installers wrecked the job and we have do another installation. We won't make that mistake again.

I had an extremely positive experience working with Jill Hankoff-Kimmel at S & J Biren Floor covering. The day I first walked in the store, I had no idea they were about to close. Jill was kind enough to stay and help me. I was already impressed. There was a particular brand of carpet that I was interested in and it turned out that Jill had a lot of experience with this product and was very knowledgeable about it. She immediately ordered samples for me which arrived within a day or two. Jill was so patient with me and was right on it when I was interested in seeing more samples. As she learned more about what I liked and wanted, she made suggestions and sent more samples. She explained the entire process to me from taking measurements to installation. She gave me options for the pad I might want to use. She was constantly in touch via email and telephone and sent me a list of what needed to be done prior to the installation. As I became overwhelmed with the work I had to do to prepare, she stayed very calm and supportive telling me to "keep my eye on the prize." I have bought many carpets from this company, and had excellent service from Jill Hankoff. There were always cooperative about sending me home with samples, sometimes many samples, and were thoroughly professional in their measurements, in laying the carpets and padding, and returning furniture to where it belonged afterward. SJ Biren is great. My contractor recommend them to me. And Jill is exactly who to go to once there. She rocked. My wife and I early in our huge home remodel that we managed ourselves met with her. Standard day - rush out of work way too early to feel you got your work done, way too late since the store will close any minute, and need to rush home shortly to feed your family. But Jill met with us, stay with us and a bit late if we needed. In about 15 minutes after asking our goals with the home, our style/taste, and rough budget - instantly gave us the choices my wife and I both had in our head, but just needed to see in front of us. She nailed it right away. And we never needed to look further. Yup. That good. She was on it 2 months later when we were ready to move ahead and get the real quote. Got us measured a week alter. And then the estimate two days later. She clarified in detail why the quote was more than what she ballparked us that day. A tough pill,but we understood easily. And she said if we need to go lower in our budget, she will easily work with us to do so. Nope, we liked the carpet. We can make it work. Scheduling was a breeze. She knew we had a tight timeframe to do the work before we needed to move in. And the work had to happen on a day when we could not even be present. No matter. She'd work with our contractor. I have used S & J Biren many times and have always been pleased with the service. I have found carpets for 3 rooms at different times and have always had a good experience. This time, I wanted a special carpet for a TV room that we were doing. Jill was very helpful and patient with all my questions. When I finally narrowed it down to two, Jill sent me information on both so I could make a more informed choice. The carpet came today and it is beautiful! It is at times confusing to buy carpet -- especially when there is so much to choose from. I browsed the products in S & J Biren, and was very impressed with the quality and quantity of their carpets. Jill Hankoff was our salesperson. She was very knowledgable, and was able to help us navigate through the myriad of gorgeous carpets and rugs. What we really liked about her was her ability to help us without being pushy and aggressive. Yet, she was able to give us details on everything we looked at. When we asked for samples, there was nothing that was refused and they all came to us directly in a timely manner. It was impressive, to always be so "cool" about everything. I ordered commercial carpeting for an office reception area from S. J. Biren Company. My sales person was Jill, and the entire experience, from ordering to final installation, was a total delight.
