We've been working with Matt and Mark for several years now, and call upon them whenever we need a unique design-build installation, graphic design, or another set of learned opinions to help make our own ideas better. We have the utmost respect for their capabilities. Their skill set is diverse and they have the rare ability to come up with a truly creative concept, then detail it and actually build it themselves. Just look at some of the images on their Houzz Projects page - you'll see that the beauty in their work comes from the attention to detail with which the ideas are executed. Studio North Inc. provided the conceptual design for a suite above an existing garage in one of Calgary's oldest neighbourhoods. Matt and Mark (company founders) were very creative in coming up with a design that helped meet our growing family needs. Two key components of the design was to be multi-functional and complement the architecture of the area. Studio North's scope included the development and building permit drawings required for municipal approval and construction. Overall, Studio North was very enthusiastic about the project and was easy to work with.

Matt, Mark and Damon (and Norbert) started working with me even before I took possession of my house and have been along for the entire ride. The home is on their site as "Homeaway" and we are in the final stages of a complete transformation of this 1950 700 sq/ft bungalow. With the addition of the atrium and the incorporation of the attached garage to the living space along with the basement the home has around 2300 sq feet of flexible space which can be divided into 2 seperate units if desired and a 3rd unit capability exists but has not been fully realized. They have very sensibly reinterpreted all of my "vision" into workable and elegant cost effective solutions which have created a far better finished product for less then I likely would have spent without their inputs. 2 years after the start we are still working together and I am planning on further work with them here in Calgary as well as my retirement property (still looking) in Nova Scotia and I would also say we have become very good friends as well as collaborators. In closing I would like to explain the 4 stars as opposed to 5 is for 2 reasons. One is they could expand upon their abilities in project definition and scheduling and secondly I am not inclined to give out perfect scores however I would gladly do so for many aspects of the services they have provided. Matthew and Mark at Studio North designed and built the renovations for our seventeen year old restaurant that breathed new life and energy into our business. My only request was that they increase seating and storage space. Their vision went beyond that and while increasing storage and seating by almost 50 %, they created a space that is current, welcoming and effecient. They saw ways to maximize our square footage to increase revenue that i could not have imagined. In the past two and a half years since the renos our sales have seen an increase each year by more than fifteen percent. I completely contribute these gains to the new environment Studio North created. Truely, not a day goes by that a customer doesn't comment on our new look. An energized look also gave this owner new enthusiasm for the business; a renewed sense of pride.

We hired Studio North to renovate our attic for more living space in our century home. They were fantastic to work alongside and respectful of our space and needs. They were enthusiastic and always made themselves available to talk through 'next steps'. We have a small family and they were flexible and at times worked around the clock for minimal disruption. They provided us with detailed drawings, extremely creative options, and updated quotes. They were always upfront with concerns and completely trustworthy professionals.
