Studio Coop Architecture

Brian and I have work together on an update to a 1954 mid century daylight basement ranch since 2006. We completely reworked and updated our home and also added a studio/garage. We also kept in mind the mid century character of the structure. Brian is/was great to work with and was willing to accommodate my time lines and preferences. Without Brian's help with this project we would have never come up with some of the outstanding design ideas he had with this project. Functionality and design were/are the most important elements of this project for us. Brian was always on time, on budget, and had invaluable advise and expertise. Brian was indispensable and crucial for us to have help us to realize our vision with this project. Brian listened to my requests and heard beyond my needs. He thought of details which I could not even have imagined. The project grew out of a need for a functional master suite closet and utilizing an under used attic space. We had a list of at least four other architects but our first meeting with Brian Murtagh of Studio Coop Architecture went so well that we felt confident that he could execute our dream closet remodel. This decision stood the test of time! • The scope of the initial remodel was to creat a functional walk in closet out of an existing attic space and to incoporate the existing tiny walk in closet into the master suite. By suggesting and designing minor changes to the actual bedroom area, Brian enhanced the scope of the remodel at minimum additional cost and gave us not just a dream closet but a dream bedroom as well! • Brian listens and listens well, but is not afraid of suggesting unique solutions and approach that you might not have considered before to really bring the wow factor to the design. • We worked with Brian through out the construction phase, with Brian making trips to site to check the progress. This was the best decision we ever made. Brian was not only able to keep the remodel on track but also administer quality control. • Our remodel had it's share of some serious problems with the contractor and ended with an arbitration, and finally a different, more honest contractor finishing the remodel. Brian's integrity and support through this difficult time was impeccable. He stood up for the truth and for his client against a very powerful and big name contractor. You will not find another professional like him. We are perennial remodelers and have worked previously with some very well known Portland Architects. Brian is the best we have ever worked with. He listens, has a keen eye for detail and brings surprise design elements that take the project to a level of excellence, every client hopes for.

Brian Murtagh of Studio Coop Architecture is the architect of your dreams! I am so grateful to have had him as a part of two major remodels. He is gentle and knowledgeable, always keeps his cool and has a network of amazing colleagues and artisans. Most of all he listens and looks, with an expert eye for detail. My mid-century modern tastes were taken to unimagined heights and I can truly say the best part of the projects have been getting to see Brian at work.
