Bath Linens
Warm, soft and fluffy towels make any day extra comforting. The right bath linens can also transform any old bathroom from plain to stunning, seamlessly matching your home’s decor.
Here are some ideas and tips to help you choose the perfect range of towels, bath mats and shower curtains.
Choose towels and bathrobes according to the colour schemes that’ll match your decor. For instance, you could buy bright red bath towels for a mostly beige contemporary bathroom, or deep blue bathrobes to accent any muted gold hardware. Expand by incorporating bath mats and shower curtains into the same colour scheme.
You also don’t need to build a set of towels from scratch. Most brands sell towel sets that include bath towels, hand towels, bath mats and bathrobes.
Shower curtains should not overwhelm your bathroom, nor should they fade into the background. Apart from carefully measuring them for height (mismatched heights mean lather trapped into your shower curtains’ edges!), you can also match the curtains to the rods and rings that’ll be used for hanging.
It’s always best to buy shower curtains that can be removed and washed easily (and don’t forget a liner with a waterproof coating to make it mould-proof).
Bath linens also include the odd bath mat or two, along with a water-absorbent shower mat. It’s a great idea to include slip-resistant mats under these bathroom mats.
If you’re one for soft comforts, then invest in some high quality Egyptian cotton bath mats. You’ll love the plush warmth that welcomes you each morning as you step out of your bath or shower onto the velvety bathroom mats. While outdoor mats can be wiry and scratchy, indoor bath mats are meant to be as soft, mould-resistant and water-absorbent as possible.
No mention of towels can ever be complete without their outdoor cousins - the beach towels. While bath towels tend to be softer due to the use of different degrees of higher grade yarn, beach towels are made from regular standardised yarn. This makes them less fluffy, and decidedly less inviting (unless it’s a beach day, in which case, no one’s interested in yarn grades!).
Other types of towels include gym towels and tea towels. Contrary to popular belief, gym towels aren’t the same as hand towels. These are much more absorbent and odour-resistant. It’s always a good idea to buy a pack of two to three gym towels so that the same one isn’t overused.
Buy bath linens, including beach towels and shower mats, that don’t bleed colour or need any extra handling. Ensure that the embroidery or embossing used in personalised towels doesn’t hamper their wash-and-wear characteristics.
