“PROJECT MARCH 2014 We have been absolutely delighted by the total experience associated with the design, implementation and in the end, the completion of our remarkable "Hill House”. A day doesn’t go by without a sense of contentment as I smile at some design feature that just makes “sense” or an aspect of how we enjoy living in this space and place – it just “works”! We were absolutely delighted with the experience of designing our house with Mihaly Slocombe. The project is true to the importance we place on environmental sustainability, aesthetics and the clever use of amenity. In the end, the integrity of the creative design is a source of enduring pleasure to us. UPDATED JULY 2016 As our family expanded to the next generation [of grandchildren], we decided to return to the Architects who designed our family home, to create a suitable extension. The brief had been to create something complimentary to the existing design, be playful, functional, environmentally efficient and still aesthetically compatible with the existing home. To our immense delight, despite the obvious challenges and complexity to meet all aspects of the brief, all our expectations were not only met – but superbly exceeded. “We chose Anne as our Archicentre architect after seeing her work on Houzz. We made the right choice! Not only did she agree to work with us after other architects had said what we wanted to achieve (on our budget) was impossible, but she was able to give us exactly what we needed. She went above and beyond in helping us problem-solve a renovation of a very difficult floorplan on a tiny budget. She came to our house and sat down with us, then sent us multiple sketches and revisions, even updating her own ideas once new options occurred to her. The solution she came up with is wonderful and solved all our concerns, and we were able to manage it on our tight budget. We are almost finished with the renovation now and the amount of natural light, space, and functionality Anne's floorplan has given us is truly beautiful. We can't recommend her highly enough.”

“We engaged Tessellate for a renovation and extension to our family home. They really understood our needs and responded to our brief with a number of well thought out concepts which they went on to fine tune as we gave then feedback and further discussed how we would use the space and our lifestyle, before we came to the final design. Their ideas were practical and functional but also had a special design aspect that we would never have conceived of by ourselves. Steven Swain was very conscious of cleverly making use of the current structure to manage costs. We had a very strict budget and we worked together to prioritise the areas we wanted to invest money in and where we could save without losing the overall vision of what we wanted to achieve. The drawing were detailed and well thought out and the team went above and beyond to help with questions and clarifications before and during the build and they had a personal investment and pride in the overall outcome. The outcome is a warm and inviting family home that is a delight to live in and regularly gets words of praise from our visitors. I would use Tessellate again without a doubt.”

Our projects with Chadwick Architects have involved renovations and extensions to our family homes. Chadwick Architects understood our brief, was keen to workshop different options and provided a number of concepts through the design process. They cleared articulated and explained the design rationale, optimising the design within the constraints of the site. On multiple projects, Chadwick Architects delivered a tailored architectural design package consistent with our brief. Throughout the process, Chadwick Architects were professional, added considerable value and were efficient with designs and plan amendments. Chadwick Architects were wonderful to work with, creative and their product exceeded our expectations. The quality and detail of the proposed plans made them easy to interpret and for us to see their vision. “We have used Ed for both of our renovations and have found him to be a great architect. For our first project we used Ed for both the design and the project management of a small renovation. We loved the design which dragged a 1970s monstrosity of a house (think lots of mission brown and wood panelling) right into the 21st Century. Tweaks that Ed made to layout just made the house 'work'. We were exceedingly happy with the result. Ed and his team worked tirelessly behind the scenes so that while we had the usual decisions to make, any of those problems that inevitably turn up on the site were solved before they hit our radar. Our second project was based in Sydney (see Ed's project titled 'Springfield' ) and although we spoke with some local architects we didn't get the same comfortable feeling as we had with Ed. Our second renovation was a major undertaking on a heritage listed house where there had been multiple renovations done in the past and little coherence. The floorplan had small spaces left over that had no practical use and the house was very tired. We extended but only by a small amount but again by rationalising the floorplan we have ended up with a much more usable space. The end result is a gorgeous home. This time I was the project manager but Ed and his team remained on call through-out for whenever my builder or I had any queries. What I love about Ed is that we have achieved a great balance between gorgeous design and practicality. The space looks fab but it is also easy to live in and we love that!”

“Architest are a unique company who built our new home's floorplan to scale in their warehouse using foam blocks. It was a brilliant way for someone like me to visualise what our new home would look like in terms of spatial awareness, positioning of kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, windows, doors and even our staircase. It really bought our potential renovation/build to life. The 2 walk-throughs of our home allowed us to change some ideas and tweek some rooms we weren't sure about before we submitted our final plans to Council. Thanks to Simon and his team for having the initiative to develop such an impressive service that is sure to be a winner for all future renovators. “We wanted a garden studio that could also provide extra accommodation when necessary; we have a seaside location which draws family and friends at holiday time. Our house is a traditional 50's stone place so we wanted something to blend in but to also add some contemporary pizzazz. Jane listened carefully to our needs and not so definite brief but came up with a very interesting, practical design which we really liked. She also linked this space design wise to an enclosed courtyard and pergola; unifying the north facing and sheltered back yard. This was probably the only real specification that we provided, that all would function as a whole with scope to add through planting of coastal and indigenous plant species. Jane's creative flair certainly has achieved this, she was always responsive and efficiently came up with practical solutions when we had questions. It has been easy to work with her because of her willingness to focus on the task at each step of the way; keeping us on track in our meanderings! The builders have been impressed with her attention to design detail.”
