Rosa, thank you for your brilliant elegant design. A marvel that encompasses more than I could ever have imagined when I emailed you from Melbourne on 13 February 2021. Thank you too for your patience, your calm against all odds in this tiny oddly-shaped strata title block with almost impossible access, your diligence and attention to detail, your conviction that cutting off a corner of the house could transform a rocky sloping patch of weeds into not just a health hub but a pleasure palace. An extraordinary achievement. When I said I wished to see the sky and clouds above, I could not envisage the orchestration of light and shadows in the rippling blue and the sense of wonder and delight while twirling through water, a reflection of my exercising self from the glazed moonlit roof. The thrill of swimming - or the luxury of simply floating and meditating - in all weathers at any hour from dawn to dark. Surprising, exhilarating, uplifting. But what is a plan and even a pool in often Arctic Hobart? Especially for a client prescribed swimming by rheumatologist, neurosurgeon and physiotherapist, but banned from chlorine by ENT specialist without the architect determined to incorporate every aspect of a client's decades-long dream?
