Melocco and Moore Architects

We (i.e. my brother and I) initially engaged with David Melocco in March 2013, after we bought a house and had some minor renovations in mind that we wanted done prior to moving in. We chose them based on research and after we interviewed our top 3 boutique architects as their ideas and concepts resonated the most with us. So the first part of the work we did with David Melocco was basically turning a bedroom into a bathroom/laundry, and also some demolition works for external laundry and bathroom. Construction spend was around $80k and the quality of the finish was top class - see the pic of the bathroom below, that's it. But we had a grander plan, which was to renovate the entire house, but at a later date, and that construction cost was around the $900m mark. So it was a two stage process. The second stage was almost a complete rebuild where my bedroom became a garage, and we put another story on top, and completely gutted the back half of the house. The pics show the end result. Needless to say we were thrilled with David and his teams assistance through the entire process. From conceptual sketches to detailed drawings + spec to contract management and sign off. Would recommend working with this team for any project, big or small, and I would definitely go straight to them for my next project in Sydney. In fact, I am even considering using them for my next project in Perth (which is where I am living now - I had to begrudgingly sell the Doncaster house - but not for anything less than a tidy profit due to the magnificent work of the Melocco and Moore team!! We look forward to working with them again!!!!! :)

Phil Moore was consulted and engaged 10 years prior to the build. Whilst the project is a modest addition to a 100 plus, year cottage, it was not without its complexities: dense inner city locale; and a sloping, exposed corner site. As a small practice, the design team worked collaboratively, with both sensitivity and sensibility. What Melocco Moore delivered, is a well functioning, light-filled home and one, we hope, to enjoy for many years to come. The completed project was built as designed 10 years prior; highlighting the relevance and timelessness of the design.

My name is David Watson, I have been a builder for nearly 30 years. I've been building Melocco and Moore projects for 25 of those years, that's got to tell you something. Melocco and Moore projects are builder friendly so you end up with a practical home that has sharp design features in volumes. I always look forward to a Dave Melocco/ Phil Moore project. Fourteen years ago the team at Melocco and Moore recreated our our house into a home…one that is not only beautiful but functions incredibly well. We never cease to experience a sense of joy when we walk into it and it has the same affect on our family and friends. It still looks great after all this time and works for all our needs. Many of our visitors comment on how well it works , how much space and timeless style there is and how the house connects with the deck and garden as an outside room. The “turning around” of living room (initially dark and roadside) and bedroom and how ensuite , laundry and bathroom all fit together were very clever. Storage in every room and on the deck works very well and after successful parties everything tucks away in place. As the masterpieces unfolded Phil and his colleague Tamara would consult frequently, make an improve net and then the excellent “final version” would have a little more inspiration added to it. Their advice on fittings and surfaces has absolutely stood well the tests of use, time and fashion. We would thoroughly recommend the team at M and M as professional, creative, affordable and clever. My wife and I employed Melocco and Moore Architects to undertake a substantial renovation to our home in Kirribilli. The project was very challenging - including a sloping block, neighbour issues and a heritage overlay over our 100+ year old house. Phil Moore and his dedicated team met each challenge with enthusiasm. Phil’s design concepts matched our brief for an expanding family home, always keeping an eye on the budget. Melocco and Moore’s models and sketches meant that we were able to easily understand the design process and offer comments and input. We found the iterative design process very helpful to ensure we got the best possible and achievable outcome. The team guided the project through a difficult Council approval process with skill and great communication. Their detailed construction documentation meant that the building process went very smoothly completing on time and budget. Surprises we kept to a minimum. The outcome is an outstanding light-filled modern residence that caters for everyone in the family. We love living in our home and can highly recommend Melocco and Moore Architects.
