Review #1
My experience with Summit Homes group in building our family home in Two Rocks has been extremely disappointing. We started the process in January 2022, and after 15 months, the project has been marred by poor workmanship, unprofessional behaviour, and significant delays.
The process for getting to the site was a hassle, and Summit Homes displayed unprofessional behaviour. It was only when Sales manager David Hunt intervened that things got back on track, but at a massive cost increase. The slab was laid in August, which was seven months later, and it was a disaster. The group of workers who laid the slab were inexperienced and unprofessional. They left unused concrete scattered over my block, and the plumbing was laid in the wrong position, now caught midway in the walls. The concrete formwork was poorly undertaken, with under hangs and overhangs clearly visible.
All four concrete plinths on either end of the property for the roof overhangs were not properly laid, and all four broke off at the point of removing the formwork. The workers undertook a botch cover-up job, and when they broke off several weeks later, none of them contained any rebar. Three of the plinths have broken off, and the Summit Homes site manager is aware, but due to ever-changing employees, nothing has been done in eight months.
The blue scope steel walls and roof were meant to be erected in November/December 2022 but did not commence until the end of January 2023 and have stayed uncompleted to date. One of the heavy-duty steel beams for the alfresco was not fitted correctly, and the bolts have sheared off against the concrete floor. All the sarking that was originally put up against the house is damaged and needs renewing.
We have had at least four to five site managers over the course of the build so far, and the majority of them have left the company for other employment or have been sacked, leaving all notifications of issues unanswered and unactioned for months. I provided feedback via Facebook in a professional manner, but the administrators kept on deleting my comments and banned me from the FB page until I challenged them on sorting the issues instead of deleting the comments.
There has been no trade, building material or equipment that has turned up on time. By on time, I mean when the site supervisor claims for them to have been scheduled or even rescheduled to start. The earliest after the site supervisor claim is three weeks, some of which we are still waiting to arrive and finish.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend this builder. They make promises to get you signed up, claiming to have the best trades, trades they pay well and turn up on time, but our experience has been the opposite. It has been difficult to keep on at Summit because of the ever-changing site supervision and trades changing or not turning up. It feels like all the chasing around is done by us, as there is very rarely a site supervisor due to the turnover of staff.
