The Design Mill

We were recommended to Julie Ann at the Design Mill by a colleague when we were looking for someone with a special flair to design our new house in Mosman Park. It was challenging because we wanted to preserve the south facing views of the Swan River whilst maximising the northern sun to our living and outdoor living areas. We also wanted to have the living accommodation on the first floor and future proof the house for aging with an inconspicuous lift and options for several accommodation uses on the ground floor should care be needed in the future. As if this was not enough we wanted to live in Spain whilst the house was designed and then built. Julie Ann was an absolute dream to work with. Her first draft took less than a week and she had it 90% right. A few emails later and the plans were ready for council. She dealt with numerous complex constraints imposed by the Town of Mosman Park professionally and was never flustered, she recommended a fantastic builder in Michael Sharp of Aspire Homes and they worked together to produce a home which was below budget and we could not be happier with! Every bit of the way Julie was there to assist the engineers, the numerous consultants, and the builder. And to pander to our occasional change when seeing something in Europe we wanted to implement in our Perth home. Nothing was too much trouble. I can recommend Julie without hesitation. After fifty years in property development I have never met anyone who could tune into not only what we wanted to achieve, but take many of my scribblings and turn them into features far beyond what I anticipated.

Julie at The Design Mill designed our 2 Storey Home in Ocean Reef. Julie was fantastic to deal with from the original sketch through to the finished design and assisting with all the Planning and Building Permit process. She listened to all of our requests and the final design and build far exceeded our expectations . She also assisted with referrals to other specialists to assist with the build I highly recommend Julie and thank her for making the process so easy .

Upon purchasing acreage in the Perth hills, we thought that a custom design would do the site justice. After ringing around and researching several building designers, we decided to meet with Julie. She came out to our current home to meet us and discuss our brief. From the minute we met her, we knew that we would get along with her well and she would cope with our craziness and constantly changing our minds! She had no problem at all with spending as much time with us was needed and we never felt rushed in any way. When Julie herself wasn't able to meet with us, she sent someone from her team, who was also lovely (especially when I had to leave her sitting in her car while I quickly ran off to the train station for 10 mins!) From the initial concept sketches of our floor plan to the 3D renderings of the interior and exterior of the house, we felt confident throughout the entire process that we were not only getting the house of our dreams but that this process was worth every penny. Julie even shopped our plan around to different builders to get quotes, and when these came back out of our budget, she didn't hesitate to rework the plan so that it met our budget. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with our decision to engage The Design Mill and would certainly recommend them to anyone. Although we are yet to start our project, Julie from the Design Mill came highly recommended. Julie has designed a few projects in our suburb and was recommended to me by word of mouth. Julie has some great ideas and has designed a second story addition for us. The addition consists of a Master Bedroom and Bathroom, Lounge with balcony and kitchenette. The service we receive is 100%. As soon as an email is sent I receive a reply within the hour. Any questions are followed up with instant results. We engaged The Design Mill to design us a new 2-storey home with 'wow' factor on a challenging block. They incorporated all our requirements and came up with a design that exceeded our expectations. We were looking for a professional design agency to work with us on a substantial second storey addition in our family home. The key thing for us was being able to work alongside the design team rather than just being given a set of drawings. It was also essential that the design blended in to give a 'built from scratch' look rather than a 'bolt on' second storey that seems common in WA. From our initial meeting with the team we were hugely impressed with how they listened to what we wanted and helped to nurture our idea into a concept and eventually construction drawings for planning submission. We did make some changes along the way, and there was never a grumble or the impression that it was too much effort to make minor changes. We've also been handheld through the planning process and put in touch with some building professionals to help us make the plans into a reality. All in all, we can't praise The Design Mill enough.
