FLORAL + HARDIE is Katrina and Mark Johnson… We are husband and wife, Mum and Dad to three quirky kids, and of course best mates. If we’re not tinkering away in our backyard shed, you’ll find us walking our dogs (or them walking us!), shooting hoops with the kids, camping by the ocean and going on little adventures in our tinny. FLORAL + HARDIE emerged from our shared passion for design and handmade objects. We are big believers in the idea of less house, more home. So we've set our hearts and hands to creating our own range of functional, handmade products. We aim to offer you an evolving, conscious collection that celebrates quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail. More about the makers… Mark is a quiet achiever with a laid-back approach—nothing can ruffle his feathers. He’s a man of many talents and is trade-qualified as a Signwriter, and an Electrical Fitter/Mechanic. He’s also one hell of a welder! These skills inform his passionate practise as an inventor and maker. Mark thrives on taking an artisanal approach to making, and loves working with steel and timber. Katrina, on the other hand, could be likened to a mad professor—hundreds of ideas buzz and pop through her brain daily! Her diverse experience includes running her own gardening business, and designing and making a range of garden planters. She also had a crack at a carpentry apprenticeship once upon a time, which fuelled a love of fine craftsmanship. Katrina is inspired by mid-century architecture, and loves working in the garden. A devoted collector, her heart goes aflutter for objects with an interesting history or story attached. Katrina designs unique objects with a practical purpose, and enjoys working with paper, wool, timber and found materials.
