My Colour is Red

I have seen many Horizon Homes builds - they are impeccable. The attention to detail is evident. Their homes are of the highest quality. I would have no hesitation recommending Horizon Homes for a knockdown rebuild.

Very disappointed with the build and process. The house defects included water cascading through light fittings, cracked floor tiles, dishwasher not installed correctly, joinery around dishwasher and range hood swelling, all mirrors requiring replacement, stairs squeaking, very uneven fools upstairs, render cracking, white lines between timber floorboards, squeaking floorboards in main areas, non-compliant stormwater pit, inadequate roof drainage etc etc. Communication is poor, unless it’s about them being paid. If payment is a day late they threaten to stop work / tools down. As they are small company and contract out all work, the delays waiting for contractors being available was several months. Horizon Homes - The greater the distance, the better they look.

Like most people, I was overwhelmed and fearful of choosing the right builder to place my trust in to build our families’ dream home. After being disappointed with many builders who over promised and under delivered, I was relieved to come across the outstanding home builder, Horizon Homes. From the moment we stepped through the doors of their beautiful display home, Megan, the Sales Consultant, made us feel at ease and provided relevant information about our future project. By the time we left , we knew we had finally found the right builder to place our trust in to build our home. From start to finish, Horizon Homes demonstrated a high level of professionalism, expertise and attention to detail that exceeded our expectations. Throughout the design and construction process, the director of Horizon Homes, Denis, worked closely with myself and my wife to ensure that every aspect of our family’s needs and preferences were incorporated in the build. Denis listened carefully to our ideas and provided valuable insights and suggestions to help us make the best possible decisions. The quality of the workmanship was truly exceptional. Every aspect of the home, from the foundation to the finishing touches, was executed with precision and care. Ruben, our Site Supervisor, kept us informed throughout the construction process, regularly updating us on progress and addressing any concerns that arose. Most importantly, all communication was followed up by email and variations documented so there was no surprises. Perhaps most impressively, Denis and his team demonstrated a commitment to excellence that extended well beyond the completion of our home. They followed up with us after the move-in to ensure that everything was functioning properly and that we were completely satisfied with the final product. Overall, I cannot recommend Horizon Homes highly enough. Their expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to customer satisfaction truly set them apart from the other builders I researched. We love our new beautiful home and I would not hesitate to work with them again in the future. Thank you Horizon Homes for building us such a wonderful home!

It’s now been a year since we moved into our Horizon home. We spent ages comparing builders and plans - and were blown away when horizon showed us their proposed plan for our (small) block. The clever use of space, the push back on ideas we thought were great at the time but in hindsight really weren’t, and the refusal to compromise on quality from Denis and his team has meant that we have a house we are very proud of and absolutely love. We couldn’t have been happier with our Site Supervisor Ruben and his approach to the build - he even impressed our family who includes a Supreme Court expert on housing and building codes and the senior sales rep for another house builder! Ruben was always willing to listen and thinking about the implications for each decision in advance, raising things with us to make slight changes to design, fit or finish which we would never have picked up ourselves but totally appreciate now that we understand the process. The Horizon team treated our house like their own and even during tougher moments (we built during COVID so it was impossible to avoid some of those) we were never in doubt that the quality of the build would be second to none. We would gladly build with Horizon again.

We wanted a new prestige home, no more renovations. We failed. Nearly 3 years on we still have trades coming to fix issues. Denis advised he only has to meet the Australian standard, nothing more. Quality is not related to price. In a picture the house would look good but.. On approaching the house you note the cracked render on all the external surfaces. Ignoring the cracked tile in the entry, you enter a dark lounge/dining room caused from the dark red timber floor that creaks as you walk on it and is not what we requested. The white lines between the floor boards break the darkness. You are startled by the loud creaking from someone walking upstairs. You think, is the water running down the patio wall a water feature? You note the toilet roll holders are installed so the roll will fall off every time it’s used. Despite the cheap flyscreens on doors and windows, poor joinery and cracking render, the house would look great in a picture, just not to live in. But don't take our word for it. Ask Denis for our contact details and arrange to come, visit and make your own assessment. Horizon Homes - the greater the distance, the better they look.

We are very disappointed that you feel this way. Not surprisingly, we have a completely different opinion on the quality of your home.

Over the 3 years since we completed your home, we have attended to any issues you raised as soon as we could safely arrange access, which wasn’t always easy due to the complexities of work during COVID. We have always honored our warranty and we have fixed any issues that have been deemed a defect. So far, any identified defects on your job have been minor in nature and we have been happy to rectify them.

Our goal is always to turn over a home with zero defects and have a client who has enjoyed the building process. If there have been issues along the way, we want to acknowledge the client’s feedback, examine our processes and make the appropriate changes so the issues don’t happen again.

Some of the issues you have raised have more to do with the finishes you have chosen for your home and the material upgrades you decided to forgo in your build. While we can fix defects, we can’t fix choices a client makes and now regrets. As for the quality of our workmanship, we have always welcomed having an independent authority review our work to determine if everything was done correctly and to industry standards.

We have tried to work with you in good faith to resolve any of your perceived issues, so it has been disappointing that you have not only threatened this negative review through the process, but also threatened to have your friends and family post similar reviews.

We have been building high quality custom homes for over 25 years and this is the first time we have ever had a review like this. Most of our new business comes from direct referral from past clients we have built for, which is a great compliment for a builder. Unfortunately, in this instance, despite our best efforts, we have come to the realisation that you can’t please everyone all of the time. We stand by our work and the quality of our workmanship and we are honoured by all the other 5 star reviews left by past clients who have loved the homes we have built for them and the experience they had working with us.

We built our first home . With no previous experience of building we were very nervous and reluctant to build initially. Met with a few different builders but were most impressed by Horizon team from the outset. All our questions were answered and fears allayed. The whole process ended up being very smooth. They accommodated a lot requests as the build progressed. Everyone in the team including Denis, Danny, Rebecca and Teresa were the most professional, friendly and easy people. We met Denis because we were not happy with the previous developer we chose. The local real estate agent recommended Horizon Homes to us, as he was very impressed by the quality of the house he sold for his client which was built by Horizon Homes. It was a smooth and enjoyable experience working with Denis, Danny, Rubén and the team. They took care of every step of the knock-down and rebuild, from the very beginning to handing over the keys. They nominated the architect designer and colour designer for our customised requirements; they prepared the council DA application; they looked after the entire building process with exceptional quality, workmanship and keen eye for details. All the inclusions and recommended products are of good quality. Denis and Danny were always available for any enquires or concerns. The payment process was easy and flexible. The entire team was honest and up front from the beginning with a lot of understanding and support. They also provided practical advice and tips when needed. Even after we moved in, Danny and his team are always responsive for any enquiry or quick repair. It’s hard to imagine your dream house. It’s better if someone just builds it for you. That’s how we felt with the house that Horizon Homes designed and built for our family. Horizon are a very professional, delivery oriented and detail focused company. All the finishings down to the smallest detail are perfect. Challenges with the site were dealt with effectively and on time. They kept us up to date with the progress of the build. Costs came in on budget. There was great engagement and consultation throughout the process to select appliances, finishings (tiles, carpets) and outdoor facilites (BBQ, pool). Our journey with Horizon Homes was wonderful. Our house looks amazing and we love it very much. We chose Horizon Homes because they said they could do any style, their display house had good quality and the team was so easy to talk to. We wanted a house that felt homey with hampton style that we just learnt at that time. We must admit that at the beginning, we occasionally were a bit worried whether or not they could deliver because their style seemed to be more contemporary and modern. Glad we took the risk! The design process, choosing colours and finishes were so much fun. We learnt a lot. Denis and team gave us useful advices on what is worth it, what’s not and what is practical and not, so our budget didn’t blow out. The split level they suggested has made the ceiling higher and the house looking more spacious. The construction process went smoothly and finished on time. The supervisors were so nice and kept us updated on the build. They were always available to answer our questions and they ensured the build quality was up to their high standard. Throughout the build, we made some changes to the finishes, downpipes locations/colours and they happily changed them for us. Horizon worked with us to design the house we wanted. They listened to our brief and gave excellent advice and suggestions. We love the result. Our home is spacious, light-filled and maximises the potential of our downward sloping block. There were setbacks throughout the build, which meant that our house was completed behind schedule, but Horizon had good communication processes in place and we cannot fault the quality of the overall build.
