I engaged Denby for a complete re-design of my apartment with a mid-century modern brief after seeing some of her highly creative designs in her online portfolio. As soon as I was presented with her ideas and concepts for my home I knew I could trust her to deliver. Her vision for colours, materials and textures combined with her strong sense for the quirky and the different lifted my own vision for how the final design might look to something that far exceeded my wildest expectations. Denby has created a truly out-of-the-ordinary space and I now have a home that still elicits a “wow” every time I walk through the door

We decided the apartment we bought in 2021 would really look good with a designer quality renovation and after reviewing a number of companies we selected Denby's company. The consultation and design phase options through to final plans went well. Once the on-site work began it was obvious that Denby had a very good working relationship with quality builders, cabinet makers, plumbers, tilers, electricians and wall paperers. So, the overall renovation project went well and in a timely fashion. Our family is very happy with the resultant look and feel of our apartment and have no hesitation in recommending Denby and to asking her to help us in the future.

I was in so awed by what Denby had achieved in the home of a friend-of-a-friend, that I hunted her down! Our brief was for colour and interest in functional spaces; a steep challenge in an unrenovated 1880s Victorian Italianate home. Denby was sensitive to the heritage, sought to appreciate our sense of style, and collaborated with us, our builder and our architect. Denby’s interior design production drawings and direction enabled us to achieve a time-less interior design to complement our lifestyle. We are delighted with the outcome.

When someone says they’re an environmentalist, it often conjures up images of tree-hugging hippies, down-at-heel houses with chickens running rampant and a general lack of modern-day living standards. In fact, a friend of mine told me they wouldn’t consider living in a sustainable house because they like taking showers! For me to contribute to an attitude shift I need my house to be aesthetically pleasing AND to function like a normal house. And that’s where Denby Dowling comes in! The goal of the project is to: >>Achieve an appealing design and feel. We want to contribute to an attitude shift in society, so it’s important that the house is not only sustainable, with low running costs, but also that it’s liveable and appealing by today’s standards and never viewed as “slumming it” or “extreme” >>Go completely off grid >>Generate enough energy and capture / recycle enough water to support a 3-person household >>Use recycled materials wherever possible. Where it’s not possible, non-toxic and sustainably-sourced materials will be substituted Minimise costs. Not only for my hip pocket, but we also want this type of build to be accessible for anyone contemplating a build or renovation >>Follow “Passive Haus” solar passive principles. Ideally my house will take advantage of what the environment provides so that the inhabitants will never have to turn on a heater or air conditioner I cannot recommend Denby highly enough. Denby decorated our house from start to finish. We moved in to a brand new home and Denby looked after everything including the colour selection, furniture, decorating, window covering; all down to the smallest detail. It was a massive project and she was the ultimate professional the whole way.
