In early 2013, we undertook a renovation of our 26-year-old Kanata kitchen. Because we were not looking for a total gutting of the room (wanting only replacement of the cabinets, counter top and backsplash, and some minor electrical upgrading) a couple other well-advertised companies were not interested in our project. Following a recommendation from friends, late in 2012 we approached Darren Walker of Kitchen Craft (KC).
Right from his first visit Darren quickly grasped our objectives and tastes, and soon proposed an interesting, practical and affordable design that perfectly suited our style and modest budget. We were immediately comfortable with his knowledge, talent and approach. In our experience as consumers, we have learned that the initial impression by the salesman is a deal maker or breaker.
We never expected the close and detailed oversight Darren provided throughout the job. His scheduling and management of each stage, including the work of the several sub-contractors, ensured that the project was done to a very high standard and with a minimum of delay. And his personal assistance in selecting the other non-KC components was much appreciated.
Darren’s recommended sub-contractors also impressed us from their first visits. They all became involved in the project. Each was interested in more than just his own aspect and was always eager to see how the whole reno turned out. It was a pleasure to deal with such friendly, careful and competent people. Of special note was KC’s installer, Henry, whose meticulous work, skill and attention to detail resulted in a perfectly stunning cabinet installation. Also, the term ‘handyman’ does not do justice to the skill and care that Derek Brunet brought to the project.
A kitchen reno is a major and disruptive project and horror stories abound. In our case, however, everything went far smoother than we ever hoped, thanks in large measure to Darren Walker’s excellent oversight and management. We feel that he went above and beyond to ensure that everything was done in a timely and satisfactory manner and we appreciated the several little ‘extras’ that he incorporated as the job went along.
As for Kitchen Craft itself, we commend the company for producing an excellent product at a reasonable price, for a range of choices that does not overwhelm, and for delivering and installing on schedule. We would not hesitate to recommend their product and service to anyone.
