Paal Grant is an award winning Melbourne-based landscape designer known for his innovative approach to creating extraordinary gardens. Growing up in the regional Victorian town of Ballarat, the natural world became his inspiration. This influence has informed his current artistic vision- one that seeks to unify the garden and living areas of the home. In his designs, Paal’s garden rooms and communal gathering areas are testament to his belief that design can bring us closer to nature- and one another. Paal’s education in Fine Arts and Design focussing on sculptural practice- and seven years teaching Visual Arts as head of the Sculpture Department at the prestigious Wesley College Melbourne- lends each garden a unique, architectural quality. Paal’s gardens are as much a work of art as a functional and inviting entertaining space. Paal designs custom-made, bespoke structures, sculptures and outdoor furniture to compliment his client’s spaces, and he will be launching his own range of limited edition art works at this year’s Japan Garden & Flower Show. Paal believes that balance is key and achieves this through the use of different textures, colours and shapes in each of his gardens, demonstrating that strong design principles enhance a functional space.
