Our mission is to build homes, community and hope. Our vision is a world where everyone has a place to live. We believe that every family needs a place to call home. Every child needs a place to dream. And every family needs a safe haven to secure the future for those they love. Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester builds homes for low-income families throughout 42 cities and towns in Massachusetts. We have an open-door policy, welcoming all volunteers and supporters, regardless of religious affiliation, race, nationality or other background. Under the motto of “a hand up, not a handout,” we build houses with families rather than for them. Partner families must contribute 400 to 500 hours of sweat equity building their homes and learning skills to become successful homeowners. The families will then buy the home at a 0% interest rate mortgage based on their income, which must fall between 30% – 60% of the area’s median income.
I am an incoming graduate student who will be attending Columbia University for a M.S. in Historic Preservation. I attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and graduated in 2016 with a B.S. in Architectural Engineer and a concentration in structures. Over the last two years, I have worked for a building envelope consulting company based in Plainville, MA, R. J. Kenney Associates (RJK), and served as a Staff Engineer and Assistant Project Manager. Our work at RJK ranges from preservation to new construction, and we serve our clients in developing and restoring envelope conditions. I am pursuing a graduate degree in historic preservation because I am extremely passionate about restoring historic structures. They are intrinsic to the fabric of community culture and values. As an engineer and preservationist, I will have a direct impact on the communities that serve our citizen and am eager to begin this journey.
