“The speedheater and scrapers I purchased get a lot of use. The first time we tried it out we couldn't believe it was true- It really got the paint off! I don't think it's the most efficient way to remove paint from wide flat surfaces or pieces that I can remove and have dipped in a lye tank, but It is great for removing paint from surfaces with profiles or small details (think: window sashes). The scrapers they sell are great, but also necessary. On really old paint, we brush on some linseed oil and leave it for a while before using the heater on it. This helps a lot. There are a few downfalls: (1) The bulbs break easily- in fairness, my speedheater gets a lot of use, and does get dropped occasionally, and so the bulbs do break. (2) It's not "super magic", it does still take a lot of patience to remove the paint, and having to hold the machine in a vertical position (not working on sawhorses) can become tiresome. (3) I know the company says it's safe, but the smell that comes with speedheating the paint doesn't seem like something I want to be breathing, so I wear a respirator. But don't let these little things distract you. Removing paint is never easy or fun, so while this tool is not flawless, it is a necessary tool in the arsenal of anyone trying to remove old paint.”

He will wade through a sea of colors chips with you to find that perfect shade ,then if not satisfied, create a custom color for you that captures your imagination beyond that which you could express in words. He will come to your project in person, if that's what it takes to fully understand your goals. Part designer,part therapist ,part alchemist, this operation goes so much further than expected ,to show they value your human connection beyond the simple merchant -consumer relation. There is no extra charge for all this extra effort and time (so please be respectful), whether you buy one gallon or hundreds. Their honesty and integrity steers you away from products you don't really need, even when that means less profit for them. Every bit of advice, every sale and every contractor recommendation they make can be trusted and counted upon because of their unique and unwavering philosophy on what a business should be. “We hired Passport Painting after 6 previous estimates. As recent 1st time home buyers and the need for painting being our first project that we would contract out we wanted to do as much research as we could allow before having new carpet put in the bedrooms. We clicked with Jon almost right away. His quote was in the middle of the other 6 and we could not have been happier with the choice we made. Between the reviews that we saw on Thumbtack and the conversations we had we felt comfortable having Passport to handle our project. We had 3 rooms all with vaulted/cathedral ceilings, not an easy task! He explained every step of the process and not only did he repair the damaged walls he went above and beyond to make sure we were pleased with the work. We were happy to have Jon work in our home and he will be the only painter we contract with for the duration of this house and any other. They say you get what you pay for, and you wont be disappointed to have Passport Painting to do your project!”
