I had a large rumpus room that needed to be spruced up. For 8 years it has languished at the bottom of our stairs, used by the kids to play - Lego, paints, playdoh, TV – whatever - I didn’t care what happened in this room so long as the mess stayed downstairs away from ‘my’ lounge room. It had painted brick and some plaster walls, it had exposed steel beams…it was a hodge podge and I couldn’t figure out what to do with it. I started browsing Houzz and saw what some people had done with their ‘bonus’ room. I dreamt of a room where I could be inspired to work and one where the kids could play. Thankfully I found Dani from Dani Louis Design to help me turn my dreams into reality. Dani started the process of designing the room by looking through our living space to get a feel for how we lived, what we liked and how we wanted to use the space. She diagnosed our style as ‘eclectic’ and set about creating mood boards for us to discuss. Minor building works – plastering over the brick walls, paint colours and additional lighting were all suggested. The fun stuff came next with new furniture that worked with our old furniture, plants, artwork and window treatments all coming together to give us a room that we are incredibly happy spending time in. Dani was able to make one huge room work hard – media room, study, reading room, play room – all the family now enjoy using it! Other than now having a room we are all proud of, the best part was working with Dani. She was open to discussing my myriad of ideas and great at reining me in! She is able to get discounts for furniture, lighting and trades so her fee really becomes superfluous to the overall cost of the renovation. Dani was a pleasure to work with and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her services. You will not be disappointed.
CplusC Architectural Workshop

There are many reasons why we are glad we chose CplusC over other architects. Firstly, their natural and balanced aesthetic strongly appeals to us and we are genuinely pleased and impressed with the quality of the construction of our home. Secondly, and as importantly, CplusC are both designers and builders. This has the advantage of avoiding disagreements between architects and builders, which meant a less difficult building process and minimises the unexpected costs that inevitably arise. Thirdly, CplusC are environmentally clever designers and builders: they design to minimise wasted construction materials; and their design and the materials they used means our ongoing expenses are reduced (we only need to turn the heater on for three or so weeks in the year, and don't use air conditioning, instead enjoying cross-breezes). CplusC have built us a beautiful home that our children will grow up in and we are happy to recommend them.
Nulook Homes
Heritage Building Conservation Services
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars6July,2014
We chose Nulook over other companies because of the building knowledge exhibited both by Peter and Julie, their eye for detail is excellent and their helpfulness and willingness to listen to our requests throughout the early phase of the project was much appreciated. The trust we built up with them during the design and costing phase made the entire process stress-free. The entire building process from start to finish has been a pleasure, the Nulook team’s eye for detail was excellent, and their helpfulness and willingness to listen to our requests through-out our project was very much appreciated. The liveability of the house is exceptional, the quality of the work is outstanding and the team was able to handle with ease some of the more challenging details set out by the designer.
Kirsten Johnstone Architecture

Kirsten was our architect for every stage of a major renovation of a heritage home in Richmond. We initially selected Kirsten because of her professional approach and her design ideas for our home. Kirsten listened carefully to what we wanted and developed and integrated these ideas into what has turned out to be a fabulous space and home. We valued her guidance, advice and management through each stage of the process from initial design to dealing with our local council and the tender process to engage a builder. During the build she was exceptional in her attention to detail and management of the build on our behalf. Her interior design skills were an additional plus during the build in ensuring a very polished and well thought out final outcome. We always felt like she was our advocate in what was at times a stressful renovation process. We would highly recommend Kirsten to anyone considering a renovation.

Gillian Pembroke came to my attention by word of mouth. I then looked at her Houzz profile and knew I needed her help with the multitude of jobs needed to get my house ready for sale. I was swamped with too many ideas and plan of attack. I didn't really wan to move - but maintaining such a large home was draining me and my bank account. It ended up being a very good meeting - I realised with her input that I could rent the larger portion of the house with some minor repairs, including a simple wall built in place of the door. We then set about improving the (old wing) so me and my two daughters and pets could make that our home. She provided very reasonable and good trades to carry out the big, but now clear list of jobs. Additions of affordable storage and better use of space. Since then with her assistance, we have taken a well built - but very tired original building and with clever colour choices in paint - toned down the many clashing bricks and wood work and made it feel very contemporary and fresh. Simple money saving ideas like painting a lot of small tiles with a feature colour has meant I could afford some other items I really wanted. She is exactly what she stated in her website, an affordable Designer and Renovation specialist.

We used the services of Nathalie and her team at NS Studio for a large renovation/re-build. Nathalie had some great design ideas that were not even on our radar and we now have a fantastic newly renovated home with amazing architectural designs that provide a real wow factor while still keeping features of the original heritage of our terrace. We would highly recommend Nathalie and her team.
Swell Homes

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars20February,2013
Swell homes extended our existing home by knocking down a wall and building a family room, study, laundry and adjoining the house to the garage. We were very happy with the work. The extension proved more difficult than first anticipated due to the nature of the existing structure but it made no difference to the timing or cost of the work. Anthony kept us informed with progress reports at least twice a week (we moved out during the work). The work was completed extremely efficiently (I think 10 weeks all up). The quality of the work was excellent and we were extremely happy with the price. I would be happy to recommend Swell Homes.
Jane Cameron Architects

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars28May,2017
I hired Jane with limited knowledge of what a major renovation entails and over the course of several months she worked with me to deliver a stunning heritage restoration of my terrace home. What I wanted from an architect was more than just drawings given my busy job and her prompt professional attitude with attention to detail made our working relationship very easy. I had a number of must haves for the renovation including a new staircase, WIR, kitchen, bathroom, understairs WC, new joinery and colour scheme. Jane listened to my brief to ensure all my requirements were met, including that of a builder who she knew could execute the project to her design specification and my budget. Overall the project met all expectations and her design experience and consultative approach ensured the original features of the home blended in seamlessly with the overall modernisation of the house. Thanks Jane for your focus throughout the project and for your help in making a beautiful end product which I will enjoy for years to come!

We chose Justin and his team at Everlong Construction to perform a significant renovation on our period home. Justin came highly recommended by another friend who had used Everlong Constructions. We found him, and his team to live up to our expectations. In terms of the quality of build, the team at Everlong Construction were able to seamlessly merge the old and new components of our home. We found the whole team, including other trades used, took pride in their workmanship and attention to detail. From a project perspective, Justin provided a very precise and accurate quote including variations. Justin and his team kept to the time line promised. We were also impressed with the level of personal attention Justin paid to our project, this ensured all facets of the job progressed smoothly. Throughout the building process Justin maintained regular and thorough communication ensuring all details related to the building process were clarified and met our expectations. Since using Justin and his team we have recommended them to other friends and family who have also shared our positive experiences of Everlong Construction.
Quadrant Design Architects

Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars15December,2015
We have used Quadrant Design for two projects - a renovation in Prahran (2004/5), and a new house in Barwon Heads(2007/8). Working with Tony and his team was a truly collaborative effort, with complete give and take between architect and client. The attention to detail on both projects was outstanding - nothing was too small to be ignored. Little things made all the difference, such as the 'scalloping' of the window frames at the Barwon Heads house, which greatly enhance the visual appeal of the place. All deadlines were met, both in the design and the build phases & the way Tony interacted with the builders (different ones on the 2 projects) meant we had none of the builder/architect tensions that can so often arise. Both projects came in on time and, importantly, on budget. We were so satisfied that we are about to embark on another house design/building exercise with Tony and the team at Quadrant.
