Recent Activity

There was intentional spread of RRv by USDA folks (Maryland, into is in a plant pathology note) after the activities of Epstein and Hill at Iowa State.
Beef farmers in southern Iowa were trying to cheaply eradicate multiflora in their farms. Once rose rosette was found in one county in southern Iowa, it could be tested elsewhere in that state.
The first paper by Staple, Allington and Viehmeyer describes what they found in Nebraska, before the activity of Epstein and Hill. Epstein and Hill wrote in a juried publication that RRD seldom infected cultivated roses. IMO their four test plots were somewhat mis interpreted: several were eaten by hungry deer over winter, one may bave been destroyed by a flood and the other included Color Magic which seldom survives winter even in my warm zone.
Mark and a number of other scientists benefitted from USDA research funds. The scientists at U Arkansas are the ones who isolated it as a virus and who created the dendrograms that show its relation to other Ermara viruses named for the European Mountain Ash Ringspot Associated virus.

Wow! 20 at once. I can never remember what I have on waitlist, but it must not be the popular ones because I rarely get a notice. I agree that you have to get at least one or two. Good luck with Diablo Hawk and Incantation!

I hope you get diablo hawk, @fig_insanity Z7b E TN. I was lucky enough to get 1 from Paul a couple of years ago and it's been a stellar rose. But very tall. I didn't know it was such a climber! Healthy too and it's 3rd year blooming a lot

No problems yesterday, and since this was the first thread I read tonight, I jumped over to Jim's DEO thread and clicked to enlarge his new pic and hit like with no problems. I use a MacBook Air laptop and Safari as browser. No interest in using Houzz on my phone. But I have occasionally used my phone to quickly look up old threads by Googling them if I'm too lazy to drag out my laptop. Works fine, but it's read-only thing b/c I'm not registered via my phone here. Fig, I hope you get it worked out!

I only use a MacBook Pro computer, and have never had those kinds of problems.

@jim1961 Central Pennsylvania Zone 6a Jim, same scenario here. It hit 83 in the early afternoon. By 5:00, it was 55, with 30mph winds, gusts up to 40mph. Quite a few potted plants, and my trash cans, blew over. I think the low this morning was around 47-ish. After WEEKS of much above average temps (tied record highs three days this week), Fall arrived with a bang, lol. No freeze/frost warnings, yet, but probably coming next week. Our average first frost is Oct 21.

It had excellent disease resistance. :) Look at how shiny the leaves are. :) Just didn't bloom much, but I didn't expect much the first year. It gave me two blooms. I expect it to improve next year.

Prom Night (Ragazza), does anyone have info on this Michal Adam/NIRP rose?

I think $55 is potted plant and bareroot maybe $35.
Carol, thanks.

Where are you? Your location makes a world of difference as to what roses will do well for you. And are you no-spray? That probably is the biggest consideration besides hardiness of the rose. What size rose are you looking for? Low growing, or would you consider a climber? "Favorite white rose" is a little broad, lol.
PJPII on multiflora rootstock.
I agree with fig_insanity that location and whether you spray make a big difference, and Desdemona is a lovely rose to have loved — its soft blush is exactly why it wouldn't fit your pure-white brief, though. I've had good luck with Pope John Paul II too, like kentucky_rose mentioned — the blooms stay a clean white for me and the fragrance is wonderful. If you want something a bit different, it might be worth looking at a white shrub rose that stays compact for a new bed, depending on how much space you have.
