Mr and Mrs Bubbs put up two scapes the first year. This is one of the last blooms on one. Notice the brick underneath the scape to hold it up. I am hoping these are not going to be weak scapes on this plant. As mentioned above, it did not even scape this year.

Mantis is correct in that this year’s weather has been one of extremes. I endured the ice storm without power for 17 days in January and February and many days in single real temps. I had adequate rain for bloom season but dry weather and drought afterwards. For the first time I can remember I had few reblooms. Only one rain episode during the summer and then nothing. We moved from drought to severe drought. I only watered pots and the backyard beds of zinnias. We got zero rain from the October hurricane although it did shorten our annual family October vacation in Florida. Thankfully I can report it is raining now. I wish for a lot but will be happy to see it settle the haze of dust we have been living in from hay cutting, hay baling, soy beans harvested and corn cut on the farms and ranches surrounding me.

But ever the optimist, I bought clearance perennials today and will hopefully get them planted next week. We gardeners do that often-look ahead to next year’s gardens!

I hope you feel better soon, Mantis. Winter and cold temps will be here before we are ready.

Mantis, for the most part your weather and the weather here were, and are the same. I hope you are on the mend……..I endured some serious health problems the first four months of this year, doing great now. I hope you can say the same soon.

No sale plants for me……I have never had good luck adding perennials at the end of the season.

We hired gardeners twice this season and plan on the same next season. Its getting tough to do ALL of the chores on our own. I enjoyed watching mulch get applied by someone else😜.

I had a bloom yesterday on Zella Virginia--relegated to a poor spot in the garden. It was actually quite nice, though I don't relish such at this time of year. Next week will be rain free, they say. Energy Ribbon is nice, though if Kate's observations hold, as a Reimer, it may always be short.

I've had a remarkable amount of scapes in my little collection this year that are blooming now. I saw another one that had popped up the other day, but have been too busy to go over and see what it is. Been a hideously hot dry summer for us, but the daylilies for some reason are having one of their best seasons ever for rebloom........Julia: Energy Ribbon is a pretty Reimer. I will say that the form on some of my late blooms has been on the abnormal side, but a bloom is a bloom.......Maryl

Don’ t know what to think……rebloom at this time of year never happens. The potted annuals thatthe squirrels left alone still look good.
