I've written here before that I have several books I loved so much that I never finished them because I didn't want them to end. It didn't change the pace of reading, though. I just put them down and never picked them up again. I better get to it...I'm getting older and time is running out!

Neither - I generally read a book at the same speed, regardless of whether it's OK, good, or fascinating. If it's not a good book (i.e. I'm really not enjoying it), then I stop reading - life it too short to waste time on bad books.

If it's really fascinating, though, I spend a lot more time thinking about it when I'm not reading it.

If I like a book, I savor it and read it more slowly. But if I don't, I go quicker, and lately I've just stopped and thought life is too short to waste time if I'm not liking it. The latest was the Anna Quinlin book.

roxsolid and Annie - no need to apologize for side convos. I’d extend that same to everyone else posting on this thread. Interesting and varied conversations make the best parties, right? The only posts I don’t welcome are those with argumentative or accusatory tones towards others. Personal agendas are not welcome either.

roxsolid, thanks for saying this is a good topic. I thought awhile before posting because I wasn’t sure how it would be received. I decided it was meaty enough to generate some interest and really was curious about what others think of these death cafe meetings. I’d never heard of them and couldn’t decide if I felt ”Yikes!” or if it really piqued my curiousity.

" ”Childless? What are your plans for getting any caregiving assistance you may need in your later years?” "

You know how the saying goes: Men plan; God laughs.

I agree with both Carol and plllog. 😆

Plllog, the sad part for me is how far it feels like we have fallen. We have always had food borne outbreaks. But the lack of concrete information this time around is appalling. Again, IMO. Historically the government was on it, issues were addressed and clear information was forthcoming. This time...it is so different. They're pushing artifically low numbers, and you have to dig for real case counts. See above. 🙁

What about all the people who did not seek medical assistance? Do they not count? There is no way to get reliable numbers in this instance.

I think that's another indicator of what's so messed up with health care systems in the country. Many people tough it out when it comes to many illnesses because they cannot afford or cannot access proper medical care.

I'm old enough to not care anymore what anyone else thinks, so I think it's great that you did something you and your family like that doesn't look like every other kitchen remodeled in the past two years. When your friends say, "do you like it?" what they mean is, it's not my style, but if you like it, I love it for you. So enjoy!

There are so many versions and much depends on your own taste. I like Ina Garten’s Chicken Salad Veronique. I do use rotisserie chicken and sub curry for the tarragon. Just a hint of curry. Here’s a link.

Chicken Salad Veronique

ETA - I sometimes add chopped walnuts or pecans.

Notice that @designinteriorsouth's examples show 6 chairs, not 4 like you currently have and intend to replace. The table has big gaps with only 4 chairs. For the time being, shift the head chairs to the sides and see if you agree it fills the space better.

Thank you! We have been under constant renovation over this last year since purchasing this house, largely doing the work ourselves. (So thankful, I married a carpenter). We are almost finished the kitchen. Fridge panels not in yet and crown above range hood. Lightning needs to go above island. We has to take a piece of the original tin ceiling tile that will be hidden once the crown goes up above range hood to patch the spot on the ceiling above the island. The wall came out between the dining room and kitchen to make the kitchen layout work, also.

Nope, I definitely do not have the engineer brain type and I don't find that format particularly convenient or usable, mostly because I'm jumping from side to side instead of reading straight down. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out how it was even supposed to work. Perhaps a lifetime of cooking has just ingrained the original recipe format into my psyche, but it works for me and I don't need updates, improvements, upgrades, or adjustments.
