LOVE this island. We were going to use this type of stone on the basement bar, a long time ago, but it was too expensive. I think this is onyx. They can light it from underneath and it "glows". They have it framed in the black wood. I DO NOT like that backsplash with it.

This shows a wood that has grain that shows through versus smooth. The top looks like onyx but could be a quartz too (quartz would be durable...onyx not so much)
