Aging In Place

A Beverly Hills Condo designed for a senior lady who chose to reside in her home with a care giver rather than move to an assisted living facility. We renovated the condo to include wider doors and entry ways, flooring with no thresholds, accessible cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom, accessible shower without a curb in the bathroom and decorative grab bars for safety. We styled the unit with all of her existing furniture and accessories but updated most of it with a fresh coat of blue or white paint (her favorite color way) and new, bold, printed fabrics. We were able to make unattractive items like electric, hospital beds look like something you'd see in a boutique hotel. Furniture was placed and selected for ease of use, lots of room to get around and no dangerous, sharp edges. Since her caregiver spends a considerable amount of time with her, we designed a beautiful resting nook (in addition to her own bedroom) near the owner's bedroom for nights when it was best for the care giver to be close.
Overall it's one of the projects we are most proud of because we worked magic within a reasonable budget to renovate a space that made the owner proud, comfortable and very, very happy. We demonstrated how senior living can and should be glamorous, stylish, chic, comfortable and elegant.
