Balmoral - Full Home Custom Design
Described as "possibly the coolest home ever seen" this project is an outstanding example of why you don't need to compromise design for functionality.
Originally, we were consulted to create a large sliding, perforated kitchen screen - based on an idea which the home owner found in Vogue magazine. The initial consultation began with the very common question "can you make this"? The answer is generally a resounding "yes"!
During the site consultation, it became very apparent that this would be a project like none other. We developed an instant connection - it helped that the owners hot pink lipstick perfectly matched my pink heels. The owner, an interior designer, was incredibly stylish and I knew the home would be nothing less. What we didn't know, was that we would be supplying a screen which would not only fit the ' industrial glam' brief, however, it's functionality would be to safe guard their son from the dangers of the kitchen. Their gorgeous son has a genetic condition, autism and low tone. The screen would allow the owner to work in the kitchen and once done, slide the screen across to prevent access to hot plates, and the sink. An incredible gesture for accommodating the needs of the growing family.
The perforated kitchen screen ended up being the first of three items which we supplied. Perforated kitchen screen, matching perforated cupboard doors, decorative perforated angel wings for the front entry.
Kitchen Screen : naturally hand weathered perforated sliding screen with decorative brass fixtures and over sized handle, attached to matt black framework. A fairly lengthy process due to the natural weathering of the steel. The panels were checked every few days to ensure the steel was weathering nicely. Once they reached the point whereby we were happy with the rusted patina, panels were lightly sanded in certain places to bring some areas back to the muted tones of raw mild steel. Panels were then clear powder coated and attached with decorative fixtures to the matt black framework. Every aspect was carefully considered . We needed to ensure holes sizes were suitable for young children. Placement of the panels on framework was also taken into consideration to ensure no sharp edges. Panels were attached to barn door sliding fixtures.
Perforated Cupboard Doors - process as per above methods.
Perforated Decorative Angel Wings for entry feature: custom design was created for these superb angel wings. The same naturally weathered perforated material was used and laser cut from the design files.
What we loved about this project was that design was never, ever compromised when accommodating to the needs of this wonderful family.
