Camberwell Townhouses

This pair of townhouses are located at 101 Prospect Hill Road, Camberwell. The street preserves a strong and consistent built character with significant built heritage significance. The townhouses are designed as a contemporary interpretation of the forms, features and materiality evident in the area and attempt a sympathetic and respectful built outcome to the existing buildings.

The site is a long standard lot with limited width which offered design challenges in the form of street presence and internal daylighting. The houses are laid out along the length with a central courtyard that provides focal point, an outdoor pocket to rejuvenate and brings daylight into the depths of the house. The design if these houses maximise the allowable building area whist delivering spacious and light-filled spaces. Both townhouses have underground level for garages, cellar and amenities.

Exterior finishes palette with slate shingles, brick and cement-based render is a deliberate attempt to create a humble street presence. Internally, a mix of timber, dark cabinetry, light stone and bronze metal accents create an elegant and playful living spaces.

Camberwell townhouses are a sensible revitalisation of a standard residential lot humbly fitting into its built heritage surrounding.
