Stunningly positioned in the heart of this waterfront home is this amazing Cantilevered staircase. Consisting of 2 stacked flights of stairs that appear out of nowhere from the dincel walled home to provide passage between bedrooms and living area down to the basement access to the foreshore.
32mmm steel plate stringers to which tread plates were fully welded, were chemset onto the concrete filled walls. Managing the weight of these stringers was only one challenge to overcome in this project! the tread carriers were wrapped in hardwood and treated with an antislip laquer to bring out the richness of colour in the hand picked red stringy timber. Engineered glass was meticulously templated so that joins were continous from flight to flight. Hand- crafted timber endcaps were used to conceal all glass fixings. The handrail was rebated into the wall to enable clear passage of the rather narrow space, yet provide function and stability for our clients.
