Ferndale - One Bed Victorian Garden Flat

We set out to transform a neglected Victorian flat in Brixton into a warm, inviting space that reflected the client's connection to nature and diverse backgrounds. Inspired by the color palette of South London’s Marble Hill House, as well as the local community, we embarked on a journey to infuse the space with character and personality.

With original features buried beneath years of neglect and multiple tenants having left their mark, we saw an opportunity to breathe new life into the space. From addressing practical issues like oddly placed sockets and broken fireplaces to repainting the entire flat, every step of the transformation was guided by our vision of creating a harmonious and functional home.

Choosing Off-White by Farrow & Ball for the walls allowed us to highlight the period details and accentuate the remarkable herringbone floor, while the dramatic Studio Green in the entrance hallway added depth and grandeur to the small space. Creative solutions, such as a custom kitchen island and built-in seating, optimised the limited square footage, while maximising storage space became a priority.

By strategically positioning a mirrored wardrobe in the bedroom and incorporating oak doors to create an open plan layout, we not only enhanced the functionality of the space but also amplified its sense of openness and connection to the outdoors. Mixing a variety of furnishings, from market finds to custom-made pieces, we curated an interior that exudes both style and comfort, all within a small budget.
