House for 5
An animated, self-shading, west facing facade aims to playfully contribute to a corner site in Northcote, Victoria, Australia.
The project retains most of the existing house which has recently undergone a renovation by previous owners and comprises an extended kitchen, living and dining area with a new 'snug' space that will experience warm afternoon sun for a passively warmed and lit cozy space in winter with built in banquette seating, shaded in summer. The new upstairs space will comprise a study, roof storage access, shared ensuite/powder room, walk-through robes, a main bedroom and a compact balcony with views towards the CBD.
This double storey extension twas constructed and completed late 2014.
This response been informed by ideas including the medieval, responses to a west facing orientation, privacy, a changing identity from night and day, contrast, pattern and texture.
