A project for a client who seeks to provide low-cost housing solutions that do not compromise on qualities he believes (and we agree) are fundamental to human well-being: good access to northern light, natural ventilation and aspect. Construction is a combination of brick and timber framed construction. The site slopes dramatically toward the east, with the ground floor split to follow this contour. The site is narrow, with building mass concentrated toward the southern boundary to secure north-facing outdoor areas. Limestone retaining is cost effective and establishes a connection to the site.
