New Farm
context
The existing vacant site was long & narrow located on one of New Farm’s avenues near the river.
opportunity
A 3 bed house, 2 bath with a study with a back yard & pool for an empty-nester couple; The house was to be modestly scaled, easy to clean and have light filled spaces, natural ventilation and a feature timber staircase.
solution
Every room has an opportunity: an interesting view, a special feature, a unique function;
The house is filled with natural light thanks to a generously scaled double height space at its core;
Large hardwood sliding doors with flush floor sills fully retract behind walls to directly connect the indoor living spaces with the outdoor living spaces effectively doubling their size;
A white gloss, low maintenance kitchen conceals striking black cupboard & drawer interiors highlighted by a colour changing LED splashback;
The house features recycled grey ironbark feature walls, ceilings & stair sourced from a decommissioned hardboards factory at Bundamba;
The polished concrete floor and honed concrete block walls add texture & an urban sculptural edge to soft native landscaping.
