Newtown Transformation - Gold Award

When asked to create a landscape design for this L shaped inner city pocket garden we jumped at the chance. Our client has a green thumb and a real passion for production planting. As well as a joy for getting his hands in soil and luvs nothing more than picking fruit, grabbing handfuls of scented rosemary or a fistful of sage. The only issue was, the best place to grab all the sun was covered with services and a concrete slab. So the solution was to fabricate a bespoke, raised corten planter. Its sensuous curved shape draws the eye and leads you around the corner, in essence making the garden feel twice as wide. The cost effective planter removed the need for footings near services and makes installation of path lighting so simple.

We installed a low timber deck to create a seamless connection from the lounge to the garden and transformed a wasted vertical space into a gardeners cook station, with storage for the Webber and tools. Formed concrete makes a fantastic all year round prep area, with feature wire on the timber to keep the production planting of citrus and passionfruit within arm’s length. Additional lockable storage is located at the bottom of the garden with internal lighting, this allows easy access to the bikes for the daily commute, whilst staying out of the direct line of sight from the house. Being located behind a scented jasmine trellis, making a beautiful back drop to the incredible bark of the flowering Crepe Myrtle.
