Renovation & Redecoration - South Wharf Apartment

When I first came across this 10 year old apartment it was in dire need of some TLC with poor quality finishes holding it back from its full potential. It lacked any character and warmth and felt very unloved. With only six weeks to completely strip the space, I had to think on my feet and avoid any form of procrastination. This was very positive, as my decisions had to be quick and extremely considered, the products that I selected had to fit within my schedule and budget as well as work as a whole to create a warm, inviting space with a touch of glamour.

The existing kitchen was demolished and replaced, with the flooring and cabinetry given the same treatment. Repainting and installing wallpaper was in order as well as a redesign of the storage cupboards in the main living area and wardrobes in all three bedrooms. I removed all the existing square cut architraves and skirting boards and replaced them with a larger classical profile. By adding bolection moulding to all the existing doors as well as new door hardware, it not only gave the doors a more classical look, it also added a bit of weight to the existing hollow core doors already in the apartment. The inclusion of these two elements automatically transformed the interior giving the apartment more of a solid New York feel.

The bathrooms were a little less work as I maintained the existing tiling, showers and bathtub and added a custom element though the inclusion of new cabinetry, wall scones and fabulous mirrors. This gave a luxury look on a tight budget.

Opting for a moody palette with layers of metallic, I gained my inspiration from the amazing city views using all the different shades of grey of the city buildings and the warm colours of the sunsets. This created a symbiotic flow between the interior and exterior of the apartment.
