Located at the top of Richmond Hill overlooking Sumner beach, the dramatic site deserved an equally dramatic home. Designed as a summer house for an expatriate family, the home is entered from the top floor to reveal the theatrical lap pool extending into the horizon, flanked on one side by a curving wall of glass and timber screen.

Downstairs, the main living spaces sit under the pool and open onto a deck with equally as impressive views. The home’s three bedrooms and study spaces are spread across both floors. The home was unfortunately damaged beyond repair in the Canterbury earthquakes and is awaiting demolition.
