The Fishing Lodge, Central Highlands | Design & Construct

Client Testimonial:
“..In 2014, My husband and I bought a three acre “bush block" in an estate in the Central Highlands of Tasmania. As it is located on the shores of a dedicated fly-fishing lake, we wanted a fishing lodge style home with a high fire safety rating and for it to be as ecologically friendly as was practical. After many months formulating our ideas, I used the Houzz website to search for architects, builders and designers who are prepared to work in remote Tasmania. At the time we lived in South Australia and needed to have confidence in a builder before committing to the project “from afar”. Emails were sent to the companies that seemed suitable, including My Build Homes. Within the hour, Murray from My Build had called my telephone! After hearing the information about the location of the land and the nature of my project, Murray expressed great enthusiasm and excitement. He was very keen to be involved. I sent my brief and some ideas and sketches of the floor plan to Murray and his team just before Christmas in 2015. Before the end of January 2016 I received the first concept plans. Murray had visited the site. Both he and his architect, Sara were bursting with ideas. They were very much in tune with what we were hoping to achieve. I could not ask for a more motivated, enthusiastic team to work with. Their communication is excellent. I received prompt, detailed responses and updates that kept us informed even though we are a long way away.
We completed the concept and then the design phases. We had a meeting to enable Murray to fully and clearly explain the process of the build and the details of the contract and budget. The building works began during the final quarter of 2016.
By Christmas the foundations had been laid. The new year saw work really take off. The team of young tradesmen were very enthusiastic and even living away from their homes week by week did not faze them.
By winter the frame-work had been completed and the chimney for our 3 fireplaces and an indoor pizza oven was well underway. At every stage and at every site meeting we were kept well informed as to progress and ideas. The building team maintained a flexible approach being prepared to adjust and adapt as required to take the best advantage of the natural and salvaged materials that are such an important feature of our project. Every adjustment was an improvement. At every turn My Build exceeded our expectations. In November 2017 the stonemason began to work his magic. The stone gathered locally and incorporated into the fabric of our building has become much admired by all who have seen our home. In February it was clear we were on the homeward track. At Easter 2018 we celebrated my husbands 60th birthday in the (almost completed) home with our friends including the My Build team. This gave Murray an opportunity to see the house function in the way we had envisioned. The final details were completed by May 2018 and we are now enjoying living in our new home.
We could not be happier! The home far exceeds our early ideas of the basic fishing cottage that we took to My Build. The home has character and strength. It takes every advantage of its setting including the available sun, the prevailing weather and the views. The workmanship is of the highest standard with the young team applying new skills and taking much pride in their work, as they rightly deserve to do.
Our journey has been exciting, educational and an enjoyable experience. We are very grateful to the My Build team for they have taken our dream and made it a so much better reality...”
