Tree Haus
A two storey rear pavilion that contains a study on the ground floor connected via a spiral stair to a master bedroom and ensuite on the first floor.
The master bedroom can also be used as a living room, and opens full width to the existing rear deck to the house to its north.
Sustainability
Careful placement of the structure in respect to significant surrounding eucalyptus trees and existing structure.
Double timber framed glazing.
Deep northerly roof projection to protect the opening from summer sunlight while allowing winter sunlight to enter.
Openings protected by SS flyscreens on the southern and eastern sides that will facilitate full cross ventilation.
An external 5000L rainwater tank.
AFS Chain of Custody Certified hardwood construction.
Low VOC timber treatment.
Fully insulated envelope including floors.
Connectivity to nature.
Economy
Spatial efficiency resulting in a smaller building footprint than would have been necessary with a more conventional stair.
Deletion of the need for corridor construction between the house and pavilion, where the owners are prepared to brave the weather!
