This home in Ascot Vale is in a Heritage Overlay Area. For this reason the architects were to restore the front of the house to original condition and make the extension to the rear as low profile from the street as possible and distinctly modern. We chose to highlight the contrast between old and new with 2 separate external colour schemes. The existing 'old' home fronting the street is dressed in a soft warm grey with contrasting white trims which echoes the delicate detailing consistent with the era of the home. The exception to this colour scheme is the Black front door which hints to the more masculine interior scheme beyond. Barely visible from the front facade is the impressively modern addition to the rear - Shadowclad in a deep velvety grey with steel architectural elements boldly detailed in a soft black. These strong modern features carry through to the contemporary interior which has polished concrete floors, white walls and black detailing throughout.
