Balaclava House - Edna 5.5

Built almost a decade ago this house was a protoype in achieving a sophisticated, energy efficient, small lot & modest budget design response.

The added challenge was to create a communal abode for the two single owners who decided to pool funds to procure a property in their suburb of choice that otherwise would have been prohibitive.

Balaclava house was cleverly zoned in to two private wings each with Bedroom, Study, Ensuite/Bathroom, Laundry & Courtyard. These zones were separated by the beautiful central Courtyard, Living, Dining & Galley Kitchen.

Every room had views to the garden.

The 2 car accommodation on site also doubled as 3rd outdoor entertaining & service courtyard.

Balaclava House has been published in Think Publishing - Small Houses Book 2011 & Leader News 2012 for its interesting background & acclaimed design.
