Bethlehem University Mount David campus

This project for Bethlehem University forms the basis of a new campus in one of the most significant locations in Palestine.

The landscaped areas surround new and existing refurbished buildings designed for a new teaching hotel and faculty for hospitality. One of the buildings is the restoration of a small palace - setting the theme of the style of formal gardens, reflecting the traditional Arabic Palestinian designs of gardens with ponds used to provide a sense of cooling in the hot summer periods. The use of olive trees reflects the significant and ancient value of these trees to the Palestinian people. All other plants are also from this part of the world - including the sculptural palm trees used in a pattern to provide shading to the car park areas. The landscaping includes formal parterre type gardens, gravel courtyards, roof top gardens and poolside hedged garden rooms - forming a tranquil oasis for this significant location.
