Chestnut St House

A new Residential extension to an existing heritage listed double fronted house. Leaving only the two front rooms and facade intact the projects brief called for a contemporary gesture as a design response. The brief responds to the orientation of the land. Capitalizing on a wide block, the new living volume extends out onto north facing entertaining areas. As part of the brief the buildings ability to be opened up for social events was high on the list of functions. Large double glazed windows connect the elevated living spaces to the northerly garden. A new formal dining area and kitchen are to be inserted into the centre of the new volume separating the living space from the two original front bedrooms. A large open master bedroom with walk in robe and ensuite catching glimpses of the city and will provides a quite retreat from busy lives.
