Coogee House
Ocean views abound from the Coogee House’s hillside location. Each room captures different framed views of the vast ocean and coastline.
Sitting above the old building walls are two high roofed timber clad living elements that dramatically reach out to the ocean beyond. The stepped nature of the roof forms allow for high-level solar access deep into the building.
The northern living area opens through from the private back garden to the east facing ocean deck. In comparison the southern living spaces are more protected and partially open to the garden at one end and arrive at a cozy ocean facing window seat at the other.
The walls of the house were retained and extended to act a series of retaining walls. The site has sand foundations that need to be sculpted and contained. The building sits like a sand castle within the natural surroundings and the dramatic cacti planting.
