Granny Flat - for Autism Independence
Margaret wanted her sons to have the opportunity to move out of home
Margaret shares her story of how she found a solution for her two grown-up sons with autism who would otherwise not have 'normal' options young men might have to try moving out of home.
Margaret wanted to provide them with a sense of independence while still being close to home, so she decided to build a Granny Flat on her property. After seeing a Granny Flat built by Cubitt's down the road, Margaret decided to get a quote from Cubitt's.
She was able to customise the flat to suit both her needs and those of her sons, with wider doorways and a bigger bathroom for accessibility.
Margaret found the process of building the Granny Flat with Cubitt's to be easy and flexible, and now her sons have the opportunity to try living with independence while still being close to family.
Watch the video to hear more about Margaret's story and how Cubitt's helped her find the perfect solution for her family.
When you build a granny flat with Cubitt's you can start from one of our standard designs or build a custom Granny Flat with Cubitt’s all over NSW and ACT
Exactly to your requirements
Margaret wanted everything to have extra space in case wheelchair access was required down the line. She only had 45m2 to work with so she maximised the bedroom and bathroom space for comfort and accessibility. While wheelchair access wasn't immediately required, because part of the home was on piers - you can see in the floor plan below how Cubitt's showed what ramp access could look like. Post-build, Margaret is doing her own work to connect the Granny Flat deck to the main home, including ramp access.
