Eddie built a Granny Flat in Shellharbour to help his daughter save on rent and build a cushion for retirement

Eddie wanted to build a place for his daughter who had just finished her studies at university. He and his wife were worried about how difficult and expensive it was for young people to get a place to live these days. Observing that they had plenty of space in the backyard they decided to build a Granny Flat.

Eddie and his wife Desiree had lived in their Shellharbour family home a long time, and would like to stay their through retirement. The main house however has stairs so they plan to live in the Granny Flat later on when their daughter has bought her own place.

They see multiple benefits of living in the Granny Flat later in life including having a 'home base' while they travel, and also being able to rent out the main home and supplement their retirement income.
