Heritage Renovation
We collaboratively approached the design to focus on understanding their desired design and living result. It was imperative to ensure that the design was both design and budget conscious and took advantage of the existing architecture of their home.
We envisaged elements of the existing built form being retained and repurposed to tell a new story. This exploration with the client enabled us to restore features of the home and furniture alike.
The kitchen’s existing jade green granite counter that both the client and I adored became the reclaimed hero and we built on this creating a modern and larger kitchen to frame the deep hued stone.
The living area adjacent to the kitchen demanded the role of host to grandchildren, Wookie the dog and day to day living. The sectional sofa separates the dining and relaxation spaces, its dense proportions and robust nature enable it to transition from reading nook to bouncy castle depending on its user.
The master bathroom was demolished. The compact space required a fresh and pure palette of finishes to ensure that its petite size did not limit its luxurious appointment. In family bathroom we sought to recycle the existing wall tiles and layer updated finishes surrounding this to invigorate the space and remind users of the homes extended ceiling height.
The formal family room fireplace was given a facelift and the entire room was draped in a peacock hue that calls to be snuggled up in. Curvaceous club chairs were reinvented with silky velvet upholstery. Custom cabinets flank the fireplace to provide much needed storage, so the room can transition easily.
