Lalor 2.0 Residence

Within the leafy suburb of Lalor is a two storey home that was built by the owners who still live there today. Upon first consultation, we knew our aim was to design and build a kitchen that made the owners just as proud as the home they built by hand.

The client's main focus was to better utilise the space - adding more storage and allowing more light into the compact room. The designer, Tammy, worked with them to create a plan that would achieve just this.

The kitchen layout was kept fairly similar to the existing kitchen, with a peninsula benchtop returning just before the window. This provides the homeowners a perfect spot to eat breakfast of a morning, with the morning sun dappling through the trees.

A major change in this kitchen design was the removal of an existing wall where they once housed a wall oven. Behind this wall was a long storage room that was accessed via a door that is adjacent to the fridge. This room was halved to allow for a spacious walk-in butler's pantry finished with a microwave unit, ample bench space and open shelving for ease of access.

After removing this storage room, we needed to create storage elsewhere for our client's glassware. The hutch buffet Tammy designed achieves just this; adding to the visual appeal of the room and providing easier access to these special goods.

Once the layout was perfected, Tammy worked with the client's to select the benchtop and door colours. These were made to align with a Hampton's style design, maintaining the period of the home while adding a contemporary feel. The client's then selected a statement piece freestanding oven that perfectly adds to the look. This was matched with brushed nickle knob and shell handles and a stunning tap.
