Lifestyle in Spades
The clients wanted an engaging, well-presented house that was aligned with their creek-side lifestyle of boats, good neighbours and outdoor entertaining. Lewis + Zwart Architecture delivered this in spades.
Physically it has two frontages (the street and the creek) each of which it now smiles at. It also successfully mediates between a 2 storey neighbour and the single storey, lower density, Scout Hall.
Blockages to the backyard were removed and minor replanning done which opened the living space and master bedroom to the Creek and created an Entertainment space. Neighbours were screened. The brief was understood, met and exceeded.
Forum Consulting Engineers embraced minimal steel, maximum retention of existing fabric and some lovely recycled columns.
Retaining maximum existing fabric allowed for money to be spent on less quantifiable items such as streetscape and lifestyle.
It was also sound environmentally, especially when married with increased natural light and breezes, insulated external walls and roof, recycled materials and FSC certified weatherboards and high-efficiency lighting, tapware and sanitary fittings.
The house is now a welcoming and engaging addition to the suburb and a true reflection of the clients.
