Marlo House

Built on rock and roll...and donuts. A home for music aficionados, this Surry Hills terrace plays to its own beat. Merging Scandinavian design with the flamboyant, guided by the owner’s collection of Australian art and love of English rock.
Our initial client needs assessment survey revealed that the client loves
listening to Radiohead and reading Dostoyevsky.
At ACDS we asked ourselves, how could we bring these influences into our design? We were not well versed of Radiohead’s music, but a new musical world opened as we listened to their songs in our studio. Their music is abstract, interpersonal, haunting and they have a unique sound that grows on you the more you listen. We wanted to evoke those same distinct feelings in this home. As far
as Dostoyevsky goes, just Google his name and you’ll find the colour palette on his book covers. Burnt orange, moss green and Russian blue. The result is a well-designed home with a distinctive personality.
