Mittagong Residence
Winner of 2017 Master Builders Association Excellence in Regional Building Award in the "Best Renovation & Addition $4 million to $5million category". The project involved the complete refurbishment of an existing 3 level brick-veneer country home, including a substantial extension to create a brand new residence of the highest quality. The refurbished 6 bedroom, home includes numerous special features including a 12 seat cinema, a separate garage / gate house with further self contained accommodation, dedicated plant room for the building services and an extensive list of detailed fixtures and finishes.
KELA completed all construction works, services, fitout and fixtures other than soft landscaping works and fitout of the cinema furniture and systems, both of which were completed under a separate contract.
The project involved numerous design challenges which were addressed by the builder working closely with the client and in consultation with an extensive consultant team. The only remaining elements of the original house are the roof trusses, the first floor external wall frames and some of the first floor – floor joists – all other elements have been replaced and upgraded. The first floor and loft levels were propped in the air while the ground floor was changed from bearers and joist construction to a suspended, heated, insulated concrete slab. Numerous acoustic treatments were included to address the owners specific requirements to isolate different areas of the home. KELA also worked with the owner to adjust and finalise design of the landscape and associated structural and civil design to suit their requirements.
