Northcote One
The glory days for this little cottage are certainly here and NOW. Formerly dilapidated and damp, the project to rejuvenate Heartly Northcote came close to a total re-build. But retaining the character and continuing the warmth throughout the entire project was considered essential in creating this much loved family home.
Heartly designed the renovation from scratch and monitored the project through to completion. The brief was to create a warm and welcoming contemporary family home making good use of the limited space. As always, we worked closely with the owner throughout the design process, helping to edit ideas and ensuring a sense of ownership and connection to the building and the home being created.
The house includes 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a powder room, study, open plan kitchen, living, dining, a walk in pantry, laundry, store room and second first floor living room. A strategically located lightwell ties it all together.
The budget was limited so we needed to be particularly clever in getting the balance right and in determining where to invest and where to save, but of course, it needed to be beautifully impressive.
There are so many crucial details to the home that make it work so well. They are all interlinked and each builds upon the other, to list them independently they seem insignificant, but their affect is cumulative and the result is a place that just makes you feel good when you step inside. We intended this! It wasn’t an accident.
