Surry Hills Unit
MapleSpaces designed this luxurious, calming quite interior for a young professional couple in Surry Hills. Within a small 1 bedroom apartment, we inserted a luxuriously proportioned kitchen with a beautiful honed peperino stone bench top. This island is the central hub of the space, a place for breakfast, drinks with friends or reading. All surfaces and finishes were renewed with a focus on natural materials (No VOC's), the spaces were designed for optimal accoustic control to ensure a calming respite from the city.
The unit in Surry Hills, was the first property the couple had owned. It was a worn out rental, with ugly feature walls a badly designed kitchen layout and ornate cornice's. They were uncertain where to start and a little apprehensive about working with a designer. They had a strict budget and didn't want to over capitalize, but still wanted a luxurious feeling space. Their brief was basically a calming retreat from the city and if possible a space that they could entertain friends - with a timber bookshelf to display books and their collection of camera's. The couple were delighted with the outcome and commented that they loved having friends over as it was an ideal place to hang out and enjoy a few wines. They also loved that their friends would would always comment on how lovely their place was.
Interestingly - The couple moved out within 18 months due to an expanding family, however they informed us that the unit (including purchase, associated costs + renovation) was now renting out positively geared. They were making around $30 a week from the unit - The Realtor had commented that the amazing interior was the only reason they were able to get someone in so quickly and with a premium rent.
