Vaucluse House

A new house that was hemmed in on three sides by taller overlooking neighbours.

The intention of this design is to provide an enriching place to live; the house is to be a sanctuary from the intensity of the owners’ lives: to arrive in a place that offers refuge, quiet & a relationship to nature.

The site is boxed in by large houses; the design makes the site private & personal, centred around a garden courtyard, & integrated with the house.

It is a house of relationships: the relationship of the house to the gardens & the rooms to each other across the garden. The interior circulation follows the edge of the central garden, & rooms are double sided - looking to the central garden & the front or back garden.
